People often make New Year's Resolutions.
Making a promise to do an act of self-improvement
or something slightly nice, such as opening doors for people
beginning from New Year's Day.

Sometimes we're excited to start our resolutions,
but after a week or 2 we forget about them.

The most common Resolutions people make that often fail are:

Classic example of a common fail:
After a season of way too many cookies, candies and holiday parties, it's only natural to
promise yourself to lose weight and get fit. Each January, fitness clubs offer deals and promotions
to those who want to stick to their resolutions, and the gyms are usually packed for the month..
:smh: Ironically, 60% of gym memberships go unused and attendance
is usually back to normal by mid-February. :sigh:
It actually can help to put a Resolution in writing to remind ourselves!
Big or small, Resolutions are things we want to put into action for ourselves!
Let's post our 2017 Resolutions here!
Maybe check back every couple months to make sure you're sticking to them! If you have any Resolutions that had gone bad or any Resolutions that actually worked, please share with us!

Good Luck with your R E S O L U T I O N S ! ! Now Share :p

I really never believed in the "resolution" thing, so I never had anything like this. I'm always with the mindset that there is a lot of room for improvement, doesn't matter if it's the end or in the middle of the year, if I notice I'm not progressing in something, I start working on it. People do awfully a lot fail with "New Year resolutions", because they turn it more into a schedule, rather than as an investment in themselves. But some just hate changes, of course we've all been there.

On the most common resolutions you mentioned :
Lose weight and get fit- I am naturally fit and athletic, I can't gain any weight. (Even if I want to)

Quit smoking - I don't smoke.

Learn something new - I always strive to learn more, I don't wait for a certain big event to happen in order to learn something, lol.

Eat healthier - Meh, I just eat whatever I feel like I want to eat and always in big amounts.

Get out of debt and save money - I don't have financial problems.

Spend More Time with Family - I do that, I spend a lot of time with my family.

Travel to New Places - I really feel like I need this, I don't travel, but I LOVE visiting new places, meeting new people, different cultures.

Be less stressed - Unlikely to happen.

Volunteer - I sometimes do that, also donate for charities.

Drink less - I don't drink

So yeah, people shouldn't wait for New Year to start working on themselves for a week and then just drop their plans until the next New Year. Self-improvement should always be a number one priority.

I agree with you, but this often doesn't happen for many people.
The idea of a Resolution usually comes when a new year is about to begin. We realize another year has gone by and we start contemplating the year ahead, and really want to make a change at that point.
In a perfect world we shouldn't need Resolutions. But, most of us do need them or should make them.
There's always room for improvement. ;)

I really thought this was a discussion about our in-game resolutions.

I think my main one(s) are
  • Be less condescending.
  • Eat healthier.
  • Fix my sleep schedule.
Making actual resolutions was harder than I thought and this took me a few minutes. Good luck to everyone on theirs!

Also - Went searching for resolutions, and came across the list you used.

This could be about any type of Resolution you want it to be.
If it were in-game, I'd like to resolve my pirate be a little less top-heavy, but I don't think it's doable :P
Now for me, I'm good. lol
I'll add a resolution later too.

Sadly, I've never heard of someone actually even beginning their list of things to change or improve about themselves. They always start motivated, they are happy about the "new year, new me" thing, but end up being the same person as last year.

I'm trying to ignore such cases, because that's the majority, but seeing how everything ends up for those people in such a way is sad.

Edit :
I probably should stop talking on this topic, I feel like I'm turning it into something sad and depressing, but it shouldn't be like that.

My current resolution is to come up with a Resolution! lol
I live each day trying to treat people how I want to be treated. I try to be health conscious and not consume too many "bad" things, lol. There's definitely something I need to work on, I'm just not sure how to put in words or into action yet.
I'll think about it, and add it when I got it ;)

I realize I'm a perpetual worrier for other people. I worry too much about everyone else but not myself. I'm not really sure how to resolve this, because I'm constantly worried that people are in need. I try to help others too much sometimes. I'm like this off game and also with the guild, usually having multiple conversations going on at once, making sure everyone's happy or crewing up or seeing if they need anything. It's hard for me to do much for myself because of this way that I am.

So for those reasons, I'd like to make a resolution to try and chill more, not worry so much about others, and to worry about myself some time too.
