Features

  • Cannon Defense is here! Visit a Cannonmaster in Fort Charles, Fort Dundee, or Tortuga Graveyard to begin a game!
    • In addition, we've added a few small quality of life improvements! For example, after every 10 waves, there will be a new 2-minute break, so you and your mates can recharge or go to the bathroom! We know how long some Cannon Defense games can go! Don't want to wait? Just make sure everyone on your team clicks "Ready!"
    • We've been working on Cannon Defense for the better part of a year, testing and fixing countless bugs!
  • Players can now obtain the full range of Cannon Rams that were available in POTCO! Hop into a Cannon Defense game and work your way towards all those coveted items, including the world-famous Revenant Ram!
  • El Patron's Mine now has a custom loading screen.
  • All remaining potions are now functional! The following potions now properly apply buffs and bonuses:
    • Cannoneer Draft - Cannon Damage Bonus
    • Deadeye - Weapon Accuracy Bonus
    • Hardy Matey - 15%-30% Reputation Bonus
    • Reputation Booster (event potion) - 100% Reputation Bonus
    • Jack's Brew (event potion) - 500% Reputation Bonus
    • Lively Bucko Brew - Health Restoration Over Time
    • Marksman Draught - Gun Damage Bonus
    • Mystic Mixture - Voodoo Damage Bonus
    • Plunder Potion - Gold Earned Bonus
    • Swashbuckler Stew - Sword Damage Bonus
Enhancements & Maintenance

  • Fixed the name of the Amber Bandit's Riding "Coooooooooooat."
  • Jack's Brew is now rare and has a higher resale value.
  • Localizer tweaks.
  • Made cutscene subtitles more accurate to the audio.
  • Whitelist & blacklist updates.
Bugfixes

  • Added a permanent fix for holiday quests needing to be manually cleared by a developer every year.
    • Holiday quests should now be automatically reset by the game every time the holiday begins each year. It should NOT remove an in-progress quest from your inventory, but it will remove any history of a completed holiday quest so you can pick it up again.
  • Fixed a bug that caused enemies defeated in the Cave of Lost Souls to not count toward quest tasks.
  • Fixed a bug where messages sent in the Privateering chat channel were not logged for our moderators.
  • Fixed a bug where the Cave of Lost Souls was not considered a cave by the game.
  • Fixed a bug where the Reputation Booster potion's description said it lasted for 2 minutes and boosted XP by 30%. In reality, it lasts an hour and boosts XP by 100%.
  • Fixed a district reset caused by crew chat.
  • Fixed an incredibly common client crash that was caused by potion effects like burp or fart not cleaning up properly. This is an ancient Disney bug.
  • Fixed several SvS-related district resets.
  • Reorganized team rank calculation to fix several PvP district resets.
Cannon Defense Bugfixes

  • Added a feature that prevents players from firing anything from their cannon for a second or so after loading, so everything sets up properly and doesn't cause a crash.
  • Added proper back-end functionality so ammos that work via proximity (Cold Shot and Smoke Bomb) function properly.
  • Adjusted barrel launch movement.
  • Adjusted Boss Ships to be a bit tougher.
  • Adjusted Smoke Bomb to now slow ships by 75% rather than 50%.
  • Adjusted the spawning of Boss Ships to occur only in waves 20+.
  • Adjusted the time ships stay at the port to steal the treasure.
  • Adjusted the treasure maximum.
  • Adjusted the way ammo hit Bandit ships in order to account for multi-hit ammos.
  • Corrected ship despawn points to be farther away than before. Previously, ships were despawning too soon after sailing away from port in Cannon Defense.
  • Corrected the maximum number of barrels that were allowed to be fired on players in a single wave.
  • Fixed a bug that caused a single pirate to be assigned to more than one cannon in Cannon Defense, marking the match as full, even if there were 1 or 2 spots still open.
  • Fixed a bug that caused players to walk off of their cannons and swim down next to the ships.
  • Fixed a bug that caused treasure stealing to not work at all. Wouldn't it be great if you could just have full treasure all the time?!
  • Fixed a bug that prevented flame barrels from launching properly. They will now either be triggered by a player that just hit a ship, or will be shot out randomly if a timer expires.
  • Fixed a bug where a Cannon Defense game wouldn't start if there were multiple people on cannons.
  • Fixed a bug where a Cannon Defense instance would not properly clean up after everyone left. This caused players to join an empty/dead match, or crash.
  • Fixed a bug where ammos would sometimes bug out and not properly apply their effects.
  • Fixed a bug where Bait Shot would not actually sink ships.
  • Fixed a bug where Bait Shot would not play the shark animation.
  • Fixed a bug where Bandit ships wouldn't use the Full Sail skill to speed away from shore once they have their treasure.
  • Fixed a bug where Cannon Defense music would not properly play.
  • Fixed a bug where Cannon Defense reputation would get stuck, preventing players from leveling up.
  • Fixed a bug where Cannonmasters would not tell players that the current Cannon Defense game is full.
  • Fixed a bug where chat notifications that a player has entered or exited a Cannon Defense game would not display.
  • Fixed a bug where Cold Shot would not slow down ships.
  • Fixed a bug where Firestorm would not hit all ships in an Area-Of-Effect list.
  • Fixed a bug where Invasion results would pop up during a Cannon Defense game, which would then boot players from their cannon and put them in the ocean water next to Bandit ships.
  • Fixed a bug where players would not be kicked from a Cannon Defense game if they were idle too long.
  • Fixed a bug where ship HP would scale way too high.
  • Fixed a bug where ships would not return all the treasure they stole when they sink.
  • Fixed a bug where ships wouldn't spawn in the proper locations in Cannon Defense.
  • Fixed a bug where sound effects in Cannon Defense would not play properly.
  • Fixed a bug where the dial showing the current wave would display "Wave 1" if a player entered during another wave.
  • Fixed a bug where the Golden Repeater Cannon would not despawn when its player left, allowing a new player joining at level 0 to still use that cannon.
  • Fixed a bug where the notification that a player joined a Cannon Defense game would be posted twice.
  • Fixed a bug where the Treasure Stolen/Treasure Remaining display in Cannon Defense would be inaccurate.
  • Fixed a bug where treasure stolen by the bandit ships was not tracked properly.
    • For example, it might display that there was no treasure remaining when there actually was quite a bit left.
  • Fixed a Cannon Defense district reset related to Cannonmasters.
  • Fixed a Cannon Defense district reset related to collecting treasure.
  • Fixed a Cannon Defense district reset related to ship AI.
  • Fixed a crash that would occur if a flaming barrel was sent to hit a pirate, but they left the Cannon Defense game before it arrived.
  • Fixed a crash that would occur if a player teleported to someone in a Cannon Defense game.
  • Fixed a crash that would occur if multiple players joined the game at once.
  • Fixed a crash that would occur if multiple players left the game at once.
  • Fixed a deep-rooted engine crash that would randomly occur due to animations during Cannon Defense.
  • Fixed a district reset that would occur as a Cannon Defense instance was being set up.
  • Fixed a district reset that would occur if a player on another server teleported to someone in a Cannon Defense game.
  • Fixed a district reset that would occur when two different players were assigned to the same Cannon.
  • Fixed a hilarious bug where during an Invasion, Cannon Defense ships would be replaced with skeletons.
    • The Undead would walk on water until they reached the shore, which would then cause the entire server to crash.
  • Fixed an issue where ships would move backward slightly, and then properly move forwards shortly after spawning.
  • Fixed an issue where "Boss Ships" wouldn't spawn in Cannon Defense.
  • Fixed an issue where a player would crash if it took the game too long to attach them to a cannon.
  • Fixed an issue where a player's internal avatar ID would be displayed publicly in the chat if they were hit by a barrel.
  • Fixed an issue where a wave results panel would show up as soon as a player re-entered a Cannon Defense game.
  • Fixed an issue where bullet effects would not properly clean up during Cannon Defense.
  • Fixed an issue where scoreboard stats would be incorrect.
  • Fixed an issue where ship animation was choppy and not smooth.
  • Fixed an issue where ships would behave erratically as they spawn.
  • Fixed an issue where ships would get confused and would not slow down if hit by both Cold Shot and Smoke Bomb at the same time.
  • Fixed an issue where ships would not properly despawn.
  • Fixed an issue where the Cannonmaster icon would not display on minimaps.
  • Fixed an issue where the game chat would be spammed with notifications that a player was kicked from Cannon Defense for being idle.
  • Fixed an issue where the game would not properly wait for more players at the very beginning of a Cannon Defense game.
  • Fixed an issue where the scoreboard would clear toward the end of a wave and not display how many shots a player fired.
  • Fixed an issue where water would turn black if you joined Cannon Defense, left, and then rejoined.
  • Fixed an issue where wooden debris effects would not clean up, and would pile up in a corner of the Cannon Defense game.
    • Hundreds upon thousands of wood effects would pile up on top of each other.
    • This caused a horrible frame rate drop during Cannon Defense.
    • If a player's camera moved to look at this pile directly, they would freeze completely.
  • Fixed end-of-wave gold popups after re-entering Cannon Defense.
  • Frigates now properly move faster when leaving shore with treasure.
  • Properly scaled treasure stolen to be proportional to each ship type.
  • Ship HP now properly increases by 20% after every 13 waves in Cannon Defense.
  • Smaller ships now properly steal less treasure than larger ships.
  • There will now properly be an error message if you attempt to teleport to someone in a Cannon Defense game.
Known Issues

  • Because of some unrelated gun damage/range bugs, using the Deadeye or Marksman Draught potions may not seem to yield any results.
    • We are confident that the boosts are being applied, it's just that these other bugs are masking the bonus effects.
    • Once these bugs are fixed (hopefully soon), you should see visible improvement when drinking these potions.
    • We will double check these potions once the bugs are fixed to make sure they are indeed working properly.
  • The debuff timer above your health bar for some potions may run out early, but the icon will remain (with 0 seconds remaining) until the potion's proper expiration time.
  • 1 Hotkey Issue: If you exit a Cannon Defense game or crash, when you return, your 1 hotkey for Round Shot may not work anymore.
    • You can still click the Round Shot icon with your mouse to use it.
    • This will remain broken like this until you do a clean restart of your game.
    • This bug has been particularly pesky for quite a while now. We have added several debug and logging features to track what the problem is.
    • Considering this is a comparatively minor issue, we decided to launch Cannon Defense with this bug still in the game.
    • We don't want to hold you all off from your cannons any longer than we have to!
  • Obviously, Cannon Defense is a pretty big new feature to the game!
    • We've tested it extensively over the past few months, but it's likely that some new bugs will pop up now that hundreds of you will be playing the game, so please bear with us!
    • We will fix everything we find as fast as we can. Thanks!
