A (possibly) naive question

Wanted Pirate
I have plenty of time to play TLOPO and no distractions. So if I find a land enemy that's well-suited to my level and giving good drops I will camp it. In doing that I will use the same weapon, the same combo of skills and just keep at it, for sometimes an hour or more until I finally get bored.

Does that look like a bot or autoclicking or whatever to other players? I'm physically, hand on my mouse (or the Ctrl button, depending on the weapon), clicking away. I may be watching t.v. at the time, but I'm there, personally involved, listening for the sound of the enemy falling or a loot drop if I'm not paying close attention. But because I don't move, jump around, switch weapons, etc., I wondered if it looks fishy to fellow pirates.

I've seen quite a few people here on the forums saying they've seen people using autoclickers or other forms of cheating in the game, but I've never known what that looks like, so I'm in the dark.

With the new moderation announcement I began to worry that my play style might look suspicious.

Auto-clickers are pretty obvious to spot because when the enemy dies and everyone has stopped attacking and is waiting on them to respawn, the auto-clicker keeps attacking and swinging at air. I doubt you would be suspected of auto-clicking unless you don't move your pirate at all and still attack after the enemy is dead.

Thanks Seahawk - I didn't know that about them still attacking after the enemy dies, and I do move to grab that loot. :treasure:

Whew!

If someone's breaking the Terms of Service then we've got plenty of tricks in the book to make sure they're caught, mods are good at what they do - so you're not going to get in trouble for just playing the game, I wouldn't stress about it ;)

Happy looting, pirate!

Yeah I certainly wouldn't think you were auto-clicking. I saw one a week or so ago and it was very obvious. As Seahawk said they don't stop or move..this one was throwing daggers continuously at the same enemy and continued even when the enemy had gone. Never collected loot either. It also made nearby enemies glitch and was messing the game up. Honestly why bother playing a game at all if you don't put the time and work in.

Someone in game I talked to announced that they landed a legendary fish. I congratulated them, then they messaged me and told me to "get an autoclicker", as it makes the process much easier.
I'm not interested in getting anyone in trouble, but really.. I just don't see the need. Why play the game if you're going to cheat at it?

Playing devil's advocate, some people have physical disabilities or even just RSI, making repetitive clicky UI basically unusable. I don't have a problem with players heavily customising their controls so long as they're not automating the whole process in a way that lets them fall asleep and keep fishing.

You're right. This is the majority's standing point.

Also,

1) I don’t think legendary fish have been implemented. To whoever’s reading: please inform me if they are

2) I personally don’t think an “autoclicker” would help out with fishing at all

If this is a prominent issue within the community and many people voice their concerns, I'm sure the devs can act accordingly and add a new feature allowing individuals to hold a certain button which automatically triggers attacks repeatedly. However, it will definitely be abused unless restricted to users with proof of being at a disadvantage.

I'm surprised someone would openly chat this as TLOPO has the right to read everything you say. I agree with you though "Why is it fun for people to play the game if they aren't even doing anything?"

Nice! Is this a new thing or has it been there for a while?

Given that they'd have to make their case over and over for every game they want to play, mostly what people do is use customised and adapted controllers that help them emulate what most players can do at a hardware or operating system level.
