Sea Legs
so if this is a new company but same gameplay from the old one I have a few questions.

once everything is in order lag free and ect are use setting like free play and also premium members like the old one so got to be a premium to advance into the game.

second question: why was the orginal shut down I never got to know why it got shut down and Disney want nothing to do with it anymore.

third question: do you know who CPT Jack Sparrow is ;)

Everyone will have premium membership and have access the the full game without paying.

The original was shut down because Disney wanted to focus on different games, especially Disney Infinity.

Captain Jack Sparrow is the captain of the Black Pearl in the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

Hey there,

Question 1: If you mean will you have to pay for Unlimited Access? Then no, the developers who are recreating the game are paying out of pocket and are not allowed to make profit off of the game.

Question 2: I've heard many things but the one that makes the most sense to me is that Disney wanted to focus more on their Mobile Apps. (This makes sense because iPhones have become increasingly more popular among younger children).

Question 3: Johnny Depp, Jack Sparrow, Mr. Sparrow, Mr. Smith, Smithy, Pirate Lord of the Caribbean Seas, Justice/Judge Smith, Jacky Boy, Jackie (Theres more but thats too much for me)

So, where is the money coming from? Most particularly the money for servers that can handle 2000 players at once. Such things do not grow on trees. I can believe that many people have and will continue to donate their time and skill to development and web site maintenance but high powered servers cost real money. I hate to be a downer but has Disney said anything about the project after seeing the great success that it is having? My feeling is that Disney never envisioned it going this far and might feel the need to protect their intellectual and copyrighted property once they see how large TLOPO has become.

The developers pay for the servers, website, etc out of their own pockets. They will keep TLOPO up as long as they have the funds for it.
As for the second part, I do not believe Disney has said anything either in support or against TLOPO. However, most people do not think that Disney will involve themselves unless money is being made in some way off of the remake. To avoid that, the game will be entirely free, and the developers will not be taking any donations whatsoever.

For who funds the game, you can find that here: https://tlopo.com/help/

They've told us repeatedly not to worry about funds. TLOPO refuses to receive donations because that's the way they want to do it, plus they aren't legally allowed to take donations. So far, Disney hasn't had a problem with it so why would they now? If they were concerned they would've stopped it earlier on in my honest opinion. Let's enjoy it while we have it :) I'm not saying you aren't enjoying it, but it's under control , there hasn't been any issues so far it appears :)

I hope that you are right. In the short run I see that Disney might view it as free advertising for their franchise but as time goes on TLOPO appears poised to equal the size of POTCO at the end of it's run which has got to have Disney's attention.

Yes, I certainly have enjoyed it very much and hope to continue enjoying it, what a fantastic job everyone has done.

Disney corporate most likely don't even know that TLOPO exists. POTCO falls under the category of "abandon-ware." Which basically means the original creator (Disney) still have full rights and ownership of POTCO, the code, the theme, the sounds and sound track, etc. but they no longer support or really do anything with the resources hence why its called abandoned.
So at this point anyone and everyone has free reign of the game and everything that comes with it to do as they please, including making money off it, but making money will more than likely put TLOPO on their radar and they would take action to shut the project down, hence why there is no Unlimited access payments or even donations.

These posts sum things up very well. We the TLOPO team are perfectly capable of funding project-related costs as long as required. And we have taken reasonable steps by NOT accepting donations/subscriptions/whatever to hopefully not draw any action by Disney. While there are no guarantees on the latter point, as stated above we don't ANTICIPATE any issues; any discussion otherwise is just people voicing their concerns (nothing wrong with that).

It's certain that Disney does know of the existence of TLOPO, it's my understanding that they have some kind of gentlemen's agreement that TLOPO may exist so long as it does not become a commercial enterprise (the details of which I know not). I am also certain that Disney did not give out code for the game and has not abandoned any claim to it.

While we are positive Disney is aware of all the remakes of their games, they have made no comment about any of them. There is absolutely no agreement of any kind with Disney in regards to the remakes. Disney did not give out the code, the game is still their intellectual property.

Proof of this, is how Toontown rewritten has succeeded after its full release. Not only have they brought back the original game in its entirety, but new content is being released on a fairly regular basis. Disney has not once made an attempt, or even a statement towards its shutdown.
