I used to play this game a while back, glad to see it's on again. Maybe you remember some of my old pirates: Anthony Swordskull, Ben Sharkbane, D'Shaun Shaka-Rashaad, Enrique Sunbane, Kwasi A'Dez, Malik Thunderskull, Malik Zulu-Jamil, or Ronin-Terror. My old guilds that I can remember are Ronin-Vengeance, Emerald Regiment and Emerald Ravens. I was also in a few others but cannot remember the all the old guild names. I was actually searching to see if I could find my old pirates cause i could only remember 4 of them, that's what I found this site so it's good for a bookmark for sure.

I'm a 'new' player myself so I don't know you from old , but I'm pretty sure the guild Emerald Regiment are still around.
There's a pretty good chance you'll bump into some old contacts eventually though since returning PotCO players seem to make up the majority
