WHAT IS ArcheAge?

ArcheAge is an open-world sandbox game unlike any other available in the West today. In ArcheAge you can: raise your mount, fight your way through a dungeon, craft the best armor in the game, make your mark on the world with an open-world farm or house, sail your ship on the high seas to trade with foreign ports, swoop in on airships and fight other players for plunder, claim a piece of land for your guild then fight with them to defend your territory from rival guilds, and lots of other fun things.

Cost: Free To Play.

Release Date: Unknown. Currently in Alpha. The game is already established in Korea and is being translated for the West, and will be released and supported by Trion Games.

While the game will be FREE TO PLAY those with 'patron' status will have bonuses and perks. From what I understand it will be run similar to Rift's game store. Some also say it is 'Play to Win' but if they run ArcheAge like Rift, the BEST items in the game that give you an advantage over other players can only be EARNED and not purchased.

Nice! Looks kindlike potco + sky rim

Two questions: for the houses, is it like a bunch of houses all in the open world or you have to go in a specific area to see someone s house?
Is there any type of group raiding?
Are there ships that you can drive?

  1. It is all open world. Players buy land and pay taxes, all in a public environment.
  2. Yes, there is group raiding - both PvP and PvE I believe.
  3. Yes, there is dynamic naval warfare.
 
Yes! Glad I'm not the only one who knew about the game, looking forward to it and adding you all :) Thanks for informing Kat!
 
The game is free to play but only paying players ( AKA "Patrons") may purchase land. There is a good reason too: Since land is a finite resource, free to play players could make multiple accounts, buy up all the land and then price the rest of us out of the market or even sell it for REAL cash. Therefore I think this is a good move on their part. JFR and I will be Patrons so hopefully we will be able to use our early start to get our hands on some real estate.

If you are a FTP player, don't worry. If your guild owns land or if you belong to a 'family' who owns land, the land owner/guild leader may grant you permission to use an area to grow crops or raise livestock. If you want to enjoy all the game has to offer, that is something you definitely want to do.
 
So, I am curious about this game. I'm debating whether or not I want to pay the money for all the extra perks or not. I am really interested in the player driven economy, I have always enjoyed crafting and trading in games and wanted to be a sort of play merchant, How does that work in the game? Is it open world PvP? The levels and such?


Also, those of you that are playing now, how much did you, or are you planning on spending?
 
Closed beta is scheduled to begin July 17 - those who purchased any of the listed founder's packs will receive automatic access to all beta events.
 
I've been keeping an eye on this game and might give the beta a look next week. Do you have any input on the races John?
I'm probably leaning toward Nuian as I can't bring myself to be a cat creature. Then from there i'll debate if I want to go the pirate route or stay in that faction.

I've not tried any other race other than Nuian. Might want to consult Kat for this as I believe she has a toon with a different race.

The 'head start' launch for those of us who pre-purchased the patron package has been very rocky - long queues to log in, only a few servers available, and unstable game. Not sure of the reason since they KNEW how many had pre-purchased and approximately how many would be playing this weekend. If they do not open more servers when the game is open to the public, the queue will be ridiculously long for those who did not pay for patron status (and probably for those of us who did as well). I can only assume they will add more servers next week at launch.
 
Yes the graphics are amazing. Click here for an interesting comparison of some of the graphics settings. JFR and I are on Kyrios, but that server seems to be the most popular atm and therefore it can take a couple of hours standing in line to get in. We finally got our small plot of farm land and that was my main goal for this weekend. Our characters on Kyrios are Efferus (JFR @John Foulroberts ), Kataris (me), and Katisclaire (me).

I read they are adding 2 new servers, one for NA and one for EU. Let me know which server you guys go on because I might want to play with you sometime :D

Kat and I are only about level 11. Work eats up a lot of our time, however we are prepared as we've already claimed plots of land. Land is a hot commodity as there are a limited number of plots per server.
