Best skill setup for Mercer's pistol?

I've been looting with it for a few days now. I do get the 10k critical strikes but have seen people getting upwards of 18k. What's the best way to have skill points spent to get the best experience with Mercer's?

Take aim 5, steel and silver 5, sharp shooter 5 (level 50 pirate will never miss). you have 10 left to do what you please with but those are the most important. Usually crits for 18k have curse on and maybe a dark aura boost or potion. depends on the enemy too.

Go loot at Darkhart after that, you'll be able to one-shot him!

also if you are below level 50 you will just naturally do less damage than those with it who are. also also, make sure you are using the appropriate ammo type for the appropriate enemy.

I figured this was the issue. I'm level 49 and its take two or three shots to kill DH currently, even with Bonny's set up

At 50 you can one shot DH with a critical hit if he's below level 35, you'll need at least a dark aura buff however. Should take two hits if he's below level 35 without any crits.

Thank god. I thought I was crazy and everyone was lapping me with their Mercer's
