Best way to make money?

Honestly, I think mat runs are the way to go! If you're looking for a good ship, you need materials to upgrade, anyway. Might as well kill two birds with one stone!
If you don't want to do those, Darkhart also drops a fair amount of gold. Abassa usually has a group of people there if you're okay with fast kills/ fast loot but less rep per kill.
Fishing is also a good way to get gold quickly after you get to the deepest level with the big fish(at fishing lvl 15, I think??)
Edit: Of course, blackjack is also a very easy way to get gold, especially if you have plenty of cheat cards. If you want to go that route, I'd recommend looting somewhere else first, let's say Darkhart, for example, to accumulate a fair number of cards.

Blanco, the spanish boss on Cutthroat also gives a nice amount of gold. usually better than Darkheart's amount, but I'd suggest 3 or more middle to high level pirates, (30-50). He's a tough level 35 boss. Healers always help. :P
I agree with mat runs, except sometimes, the gold received is fairly low.
I like blackjack... but now I get caught 100% of the time :(
and fishing is a fairly solid way to make gold, but it gets pretty boring after a while.
 
Outstanding thank you all, this is extremely helpful! Regarding cheat cards, Im lvl 7 now and have picked up about 5 - 7 of these cards. Is killing enemies the only way to get them or would i be able to trade with my buddy for cards i dont have if i have duplicates? Lol im a super noob, how does one preform a material run?

No, you have to get them yourself. You can't trade for them :/

On that note, I can successfully solo him as a Level 48 using General's Broadsword OR The Lost Sword of El Patron. If I had to put an estimate here are some strategies:

1. Broadsword / Life Drain (Requires Life Drain + Blade Storm)
Hacking at him with a broadsword & then switching to Voodoo with Life Drain is a great way to fight any boss, so long as you calculate when you need to use it. This'll only work if you're above Level 35.. Elsewise he'll drain your health too fast.

2. Lost Sword / Ghost Form (Requires 'The Lost sword of El Patron" + Blade Storm)
When you can't broadsword 'em.. Ghost them! Using 'Ghost Form' to cut damage in half is a great way to fight Blanco. Combine that with Blade Storm & you'll be able to take him down if you're in the mid-to-high Level 40s.
