Announcement Brief Update

Yeah, that's really weird. Maybe we will hear something later today or tonight. One thing's for sure (not really, but we can dream), it will be up soon! :pirate:

that would take away time they could spend coding so would you rather know whats happening orrrrrrrr get the gamer sooner.
I never got the whole "it takes time away from coding" thing.

I know a lot of little things are worked on constantly, but a few sentences once or twice a week about the general idea of progress being made doesn't seem too much to ask..

I agree with Ben here. A brief update once a week of whatever progress they may have made would not take away time from coding. It isn't like they all have to stop for the few moments that one staff member that doesn't even have to be a coder writes up a quick update log. :smilies:

People tend to want a lot more than a few sentences, and stopping every dev in their tracks to ask what they're doing would get on anyone's nerves. Trust me on this, it's not as easy as it sounds and takes time away from development :p

:2 cents:In theory it's a nice idea, but in practice I think a weekly update may actually cause people to be down hearted
and think that LESS progress is being made.

For example Week 1: 'We fixed x, y and added z.'
Week 2: 'We fixed the lag, but x, y and z no longer work!'

I can see that causing more problems with community spirit than it fixes cos you know there would be a dozen
forum threads saying 'OMG they broke it!'

These are some very good points, I hadn't thought about it like this before. So I guess it's understandable why the team is hesitant to do weekly updates.

I get what you are saying. I really do. Also, I don't want this to be taken the wrong way (if at all possible). However...

...it was a choice by TLOPO (and a few other remakes) to develop a remake of POTCO by choosing also at the same time to promote and to permit limited access to it. While I do agree with such open-door policy, TLOPO must also accept that there remains a "trade-off" which goes along with the fact that TLOPO is not only in a position to develop but also in the position to take full ownership over the player-base/customer service issues which do arise all on account of TLOPO existing within the public arena.

No doubt, TLOPO has done this. But...it's important also to note that it just can't be a random thing or effort and especially when it's known that people are increasingly becoming antsy about some issue of concern. While I do agree that TLOPO is in fact recreating POTCO out of the kindness of their own time, energy, and heart...once TLOPO was advertised and promoted publicly TLOPO has taken upon it's own shoulders responsibility pertaining to fan requests, concerns, and need for communications. Anyway, I just want to reiterate that (given what you have said within your own post I had quoted). :D

I have no idea what you're getting at honestly, sorry.

The developers took on the task of remaking the game, not updating everyone constantly on the progress of said update. What truly matters in the end is that the update is released, not when it's released - and developers taking time off from remaking the game just to let people know they're still remaking the game seems... backwards.

Either way, we've given a ton of updates and even hosted a stream in regards to the progress that's been made. I wouldn't be so quick to say there's customer service issues, if anything I'd say we're doing just fine. :p

As a relatively small and independent team, and considering what has come to light (to me, at least) in this thread, the line where TLOPO "owes us" anything stops at developing the game. The fact that they have such a presence on the forums and in-game are just bonuses really.

When you think about it, they operate similarly to a lot of games. They host livestreams every once in a while, and post update logs when a new version is released. The fact that a lot of high-up staff is available to answer questions on the forums and such is due to this community being a very small and close one in the big scheme of things.

So yeah, for doing this all as a hobby, I'd say they're currently doing perfectly fine considering all they're doing. Don't get me wrong, I'd like development updates during the downtime as well, but taking into account everything, I believe they're "taking upon the responsibility" of serving the community pretty well.
