Can someone explain the death system to me?

There's simply no death "system" in the game.
You get knocked out and go to jail, where you can escape because the guard is asleep.
Once yer out, you're groggy for a bit, because, well, you're groggy.
Enemies get knocked out and they eventually re spawn.
And, you're welcome!
Savor it!
So, I slap a enemy silly and knock him out, pillage his unconscious body and run away screaming like a little girl into the next enemy and this is okay with Disney?
Where do enemies go when they disappear? Bad enemy jail?

Oh, that's not nice. Are you saying you've never been resurrected when knocked out?
Well, then, if I see you get knocked out in a fight, I'll just resurrect you against your will and you can complain to the king or something.
But I doubt he'll listen.
There is a "go to jail" button so someone can punch out while you are trying to revive them.
Believe it or not I have seen people do it and learned that they don't want me to revive them
(so I will respect that wish and not burn a tonic on them and avoid them as they probably don't want to have anything to do with me.)
Bottom line you cant revive anyone who doesn't want you to.

What is the benefit to going to jail as opposed to being revived in the field of battle. I don't understand that. I don't recall, but does one stay groggy when revived by another pirate if they are under level 50?

  • Pirates with a Notoriety level less than 10 will not be affected by groggy, no matter how many times they are knocked out. Also, a Pirate Master or Level 50 pirate no longer suffers from being groggy.

The benefit is that they can move up the leaderboards on times in jail...

So they don't have to see the message "IhateTiberiasmorethandeathitself has been revived by Tiberias Worthington" in the chat window.
Some things are just too difficult to accept I guess and even more difficult to have everyone else read I suppose. Its called extreme pride.

I have hit the go to jail button during an invasion once, when I was knocked out with keg runners all around me, I didn't want anybody trying to revive me only to get knocked out themselves by a well-placed grenade + keg runner. Otherwise the revive is much appreciated.

Re: being groggy after being revived, no, I don't believe you are groggy after being revived, but your health bar is still pretty low and has to regenerate, if that makes sense.

Friendly reminder; You are not obliged to revive people so if you see someone who is knocked but that person hates you for god knows what reason just have some fun and forget about them.

It just does not make sense. I mean when you sink how the heck do you wake up in jail? Who in the world is rescuing you at sea? And why would the navy waste resources on pirates them claim to hate? Can we get a blue post on this? I need to know!!!

Alright so when you are in combat and you get knocked down you've been stabbed, shot, blown up etc. how in the world do you just go to jail? I've been killed and who in the world took me to jail the skeleton that just stabbed me? I don't think so and when I finally reach to jail in ways I'm not so sure how do I just plop down into a cell? I just spawn in the cell and fall on my butt then i just get up and waltz out like nothing happened? why doesn't the guard wake up? Is he dead? Why is the jail door not locked? This system doesn't make any sense to me.

When on the ground to be revived you are fading out of consciousness, and when the timer runs out, you black out presumably from the pain. When dying from a Navy or a Trading Co they put you in jail to put you on trial but you escape, when dying from natural creatures or undead/Davy's Crew your teleport totems warp you out of there automatically before you could face a worse fate.

When you sink your crew swims to the nearest shore all water logged and tired, and then get arrested by the Navy and put in jail

:scary mary:

Your answer lies in the below (audio) link coming from the lips of Mike Goslin, original developer of POTCO. Just go to timestamp 34:00 within the audio and listen for a few minutes.

If it makes you feel more real, you can delete your account once you sink and start a new pirate, etc.
