Since there hasn't been a major update since December 2011; do you think if POTCO started updating and maintaining the game, they could get it back to what it used to be? Or is POTCO's fate a different road...

If they began the long process of revamping the game now, and took good care in fixing all of the glitches, errors, etc., yes, I believe it could. Sadly though, unless they start to show some interest in the game, it will continue to die.

YES! Absolutely! But I would love to see it be re-built in the Unreal Engine..... it would look amazing!

Sadly.... That would never happen, but it can come back :)

yeah i think it could. but that would take a long time and a staff thats really DEDICATED but.. sadly we really dont have that :( but still i think its possible

I do believe that Disney can get this game back to its former glory. The only problem is: are they willing to or not? Honestly, as much as it pains me to say this, they probably will not allocate more resources to DIMG, cancelling out any chances for improvement. This is only a hypothesis and my viewpoint.

In my opinion, the answer can only be a "yes" if Disney/DIMG substanially backs the game up financially in such a way that the content, security, advertising and marketing of POTCO is valued (at a bare minimum) on the same level of potential as it's in-house, gaming competitors (i.e., Club Penguin and Disney Infinity).

IF this were to happen, I have no doubt that a trickling effect would occur to where one aspect of the game would likely influence another aspect to occur which would ultimately assure POTCO's success as a leading MMO game.

If the 4 things listed ^ above were to happen, I assume that additional players would become more inclined to join/subscribe to POTCO's unlimited access which in-turn would sustain the game's growth (which in-turn would please Disney/DIMG overall and lead them to incorporate more funding for the game to assure it's future development).

Other than that, I forsee that the game's brand name plays an important role as I suspect that Disney would rather not see the "Pirates of the Caribbean" (POTC) name tarnished on account of the actual theme-park ride, which Walt Disney himself had a hand-in before he had died.

*I know it's not much fun to talk about but, the "business" side of the game - in my opinion - is what will ultimately decide the fate of POTCO.

In my own honest opinion, the question should not be about whether the game could ever be restored to its former glory, for there are plenty of reasons why the game could flourish and prosper once again. Rather, the question should be whether POTCO will be restored to its former glory, which as far as I know is what John Foulroberts was saying.

My opinion on that particular question? I believe it will, as I have stated many times, but then again, this Pirate's opinion is his own, and not anyone else's. If you do not believe it will, I can not stop you or persuade you from doing so. If you believe it will, then Yippee and let it go at that.

The answer for me is "yes" IF POTCO decides to stop being lazy. Yes, I understand there were many layoffs and such, but the truth is, it doesn't seem POTCO is trying at all. Most of the polls on the site are pointless. There aren't any polls that ask what we want. There are no game cards, hackers have overrun the game, POTCO isn't banning many people that deserve to be banned, and there's no progress whatsoever on Chapter 2 of the Black Pearl Quest. I could care less about the Kraken, because I do believe there's more important things than that one sea monster. I do know it would take a lot of time for POTCO to develop that correctly, anyway.

But, POTCO isn't stepping up its game. It's not doing the best it can do. The Heart of Padres del Fuego didn't count as an update to me, because unless there's a bigger storyline tied to it, it was just another trick to get us back. It probably hardly worked at all. Forgive me if I'm sounding too cynical and that was not my intention.

Despite what I just said, the answer is yes. However, POTCO needs to do A LOT if they plan on reviving this game.

I sure hope so. Disney just doesn't pay much attention to POTCO anymore, wish they did. Even if they just put up some commercials, that could get alot of people playing! I really hope they start to show some interest in the game, maybe they will when these new movies come out!

Well, what I hope is, the successful petition to revive Pirates of the Caribbean online will give it the former glory. We'll just have to see what Disney do.

They're being a bit wishy-washy on things right now. We can't say their true motive in cutting out servers and giving away things. Sure, there are less servers to maintain but it's still 15. Personally I think Disney is trying to keep people interested, they are trying to keep the game exciting... but they just can't figure out how or when. Yet at the same time, they can't be losing money and they need to figure out ways to make things less complicated - maybe that has something to do with the server removals. The "Revive POTCO" petition states some improvements that can be made to the game, but it's not like they can just wave their magic wand and make all that happen. I think a big role for us is to continue to be patient and to realize that keeping a game up and running isn't as easy as it looks or may seem to most. Programming has to be done, decisions have to be made and they know that they can't satisfy everyone, but that is how a lot of things in life are. I don't know if anyone can say if they'll ever be what they used to. The early years of pirates aren't nearly as good as they are now - we can loot famed and legendary weapons as well as darks and brights, we can upgrade our ships, pvp and svs have been added - we can do so much more than what what we used to be able to do. We can, however, say that if Disney is trying to figure out how to make some good reforms and make the game better, then they're headed in the right direction. Now that doesn't mean I agree with every change they've been made. All the servers that I would get great stuff on are mostly labeled as "Ideal" now, and it's hard to get a spot in the mines. At least now they've figured out that they can save more money and/or resources by doing this, and in the long run I'm sure that they have some great things planned and it'll turn out just fine. We just have to trust that. Besides, making a game this large and making changes for personal gain is completely unrealistic - If that were to happen, then the game would have collapsed much faster. I think we just need to slow down a bit and not be predicting a doomsday for POTCO. They can figure it out, and with the number of signatures on the petition, there's bound to be some consideration towards that. Let's be patient, and see what happens. I doubt this game will go down the drain.

I - for one - do wish you would copy/paste your entire post to the petition's website, mate, as you really do touch upon a lot of good points, Scorpion. :) *The two words you had written (and which I had bolded), are not easy to accept, I admit. However, if we enjoy the game NOW for whatever it does happen to offer, we will be thinking along the same lines as Nomad stated. :D

It could happen but Disney has been shutting down all their console game studios recently and moving stricktly to mobile games while just making their big titles licenses to hand out to other companies. This means that while it can happen and it would be long and expensive it wont because Disney simply just doesnt care anymore.

In the past, I would agree but given the news lately concerning the development of Disney "Planes" along with the link I am providing below (released just yesterday), it looks to me like CONSOLE gaming is becoming the latest trend Disney/DIMG has been focusing upon despite their extreme infatuation with both "mobile" and "social" gaming:

Thanks for that Shamus, that gives me some hope for this game after all. On the bright side if they are moving back to console games if Assassins Creed IV Black Flag does well Disney might also see that they can make money off of a good pirate game, also I think Disney will just be handing out their licenses for these companies to use should they want to so that still leaves this game up in the air but their is some hope.
P.S. Disney needs to get their priorities straight or at least say they will do both..

I'm not really sure. If they know the game is dying then why spend the money to keep it alive? This only makes me think they'll try to save it somehow, but to do so they'd almost have to scrap everything. (New engine, new design team, etc.) As it sits, POTCO will die in a matter of oh say, 1 year. I am sorry if I am sounding cynical but let me finish. They know that, so by default they will update and fix the game. Otherwise they could of pulled plug a while ago. So I have hope :)

I agree with some of what JFR said, i believe it could be back in business but not Nearly as well as it was back in the day, i know that for a fact.
