Glitch El Patron Damaged

Been trying to solo El Patron for the better part of 2 hours now. Fought him and his doppelganger, him solo, him and his minions, him, his doppelganger and both their minions, etc, to no avail.
When he's about to die, he simply vanishes. Then I have to leave the ship and come back and he spawns again and repeat the scenario above ad nauseam.
I've done this quest successfully literally 11 times (alts you know), and it keeps getting more and more difficult to defeat him, now finally becoming impossible.
Changing servers makes zero difference. he always disappears right before he dies.
Is there something I'm missing here?
Some chant or mantra I have to recite while in battle? Standing on one foot while battling? Flatulent fizz?
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
In the meantime, enjoy this candid moment of me chasing both El Patrons as they run like scared chickens!

OK, I finally defeated him, after 34 attempts. I found the trick was to just stand there like a freebooter and let him hit me repeatedly while not attacking. Taking damage for some odd reason was the trick?
His minions came around 3 times as I battled him, and they needed to hit me too or they'd all just go poof.
The other funny thing was they'd all just randomly run away from me and go anywhere I wasn't. Then they'd attack the air, run around some more and finally find me, waiting there for them.
I'm pretty sure it was slightly different back in POTCO, but alas, this is TLOPO beta, so it's all good!
Savor it!

BTW, don't chase them like I did in the picture below because they all disappear when you do. You gotta just stand there, check the time and hope for the best.

I found that you can not stun him or freeze him. Otherwise, he would stop attacking and he would despawn. You don't have brawl however.

This was the same Issue i had encountered , multiple spawns ..... makes It real Interesting and his minions had mega health barely took damage !

How do you even invoke the el patron quest? Is this using a alt or new pirate doing the quest the first time? Once I did it, can't seem to go back to him.
Also, I noticed, when the same thing happened to me, that I stayed still, looked at the compass map and saw his red dot wandering around a distance away. After a few minutes, the dot started back and he reappeared. This is something I've seen a lot with other bosses in tlopo, or even normal enemies. They run off into the walls, but I can see their dots most the time and attack them just before they appear on screen with me. You can even do range attacks on them when in walls.
