I think this would benefit everyone. If we could get an option to enable email notifications on the game site, we would be able to get updated live so we dont have to keep looking over the site expecting one of the big updates to occur at who knows how long. If you agree with this feel free to leave a comment and vote!

I see why people would like that idea. I prefer just looking on the site because when I open the launcher all I have to do is click "website" but for others, maybe they can make it an option in account settings whether you get the email updates? You know, one of those little check boxes?

Yea, i have notifications to whenever i get emails so it would be very special to have! :D

Wait, you guys don't get notifications through your email? As long as you follow a thread you get email notifs from it, at least I do.

I like this idea and the text updates idea as well. You would just need newsletter software that sends the message to a certain "grouping" that the TLOPO Dev's can add everyone to at the player's request. Also- email addresses have the capability of texting. For example- with AT&T users you would do: [AreaCode][Phone#]@mms.att.net :)

There used to be an Uptime Robot page, but it was taken down because it wasn't thorough enough.

JFR on the Uptime Robot page:
It's actually an inaccurate representation of server status. I had it pointing to our login servers (which are not the same as the actual game servers). The login servers can be up but the actual gameservers can be down.

We may revisit the concept and create an accurate server status page on the TLOPO website.

Although one may not work without the other if all login servers or all gameservers went down at once.

I would be completely in favor of text/push notifications. The next best thing is to "watch" the forum thread and enable notifications for your email app. Note the thread is updated manually but they are very quick to update it concerning planned downtime.

If a new Uptime Robot (or equivalent) page is created, it can be linked to an IFTTT trigger with an output of text, email, even telephone (US only) messages. Or something cool like changing the color of your smart lightbulbs if you have some.

How would you guys feel about an RSS feed for news, there's various software that can poll these for automatic notifications.

I've seen Discord bots for the General Discussion section but I have no idea how they did it. I suspect they used RSS but I don't know enough about RSS to replicate the webhook. I would create an IFTTT recipe if I did.

The RSS feed is readily accessible. Examples:

https://piratesforums.co/forums/-/index.rss
https://piratesforums.co/forums/tlopo-general-discussion.99/index.rss

I don't know how to watch a specific thread with RSS software but you should be able to subscribe to sections from those links.

https://api.tlopo.com/news/feed/5/ - there's your feed. It should be fairly easy to find a client that accepts it
