Ahoy, folks! Today, I want to step forward to put out an idea for the future. Very simple in theory, yes, but I feel like something like this could not only be a drive to further completing their pirates, and also has many uses that don't revolve around the end-game.

So, let's talk about it:

Treasure as it stands in TLOPO, are semi-useless nick-nacks that can be found fairly often in both land and sea loot containers. Some of which provide a half decent clump of gold, but are not used for much else.

My idea for the topic is as follows:

A present game mechanic that surrounds these items, are that they max out at stacks of x99, or after picking up that certain nick-nack 99 times out of loot. Between all currently available collections of treasure, that equates to 107 items, totaling to a whopping 10,593 Treasure Items picked up to completely fill your entire inventory. (Not counting Fish or Legendary Fish)

I propose a system that rewards players for completing these side inventories, which would like this:

(The border and glow around the Navy Decorations category)

A very subtle change nonetheless, but what this will in-effect allow is..
Upon reaching x99 of every item in a certain inventory, you will
No longer find these items in Loot, Land OR Sea,
A way to show off your achievement.

"A way to show off your achievement." So, to continue on the topic of that statement alone, let me introduce you to the second part of my idea. Badges.

Badges in TLOPO are often looked upon as the rating of a player in PvP or SvS, but it doesn't have to stay this way. Idea? Let's see:

From before, let's say you completed the Navy Decorations category. (Meaning 99 of each of the 14 items available.) What this will in-turn allow players to do, is to use a rare and prestigious medal corresponding to that category of items, basically acting as a kill-tag showing that this pirate favors a certain set of enemies or spends a lot of time looting certain opponents.

Now, I know that the idea is very basic, and is still a work-in-progress to being something entirely flush and prepared to be implemented, but let me explain to you a few points as to why this may be something that would interest the community.
  • Allows players who favor looting to be able to minimize the amount of loot pollution through time playing the game.
  • Gives players a secondary goal in the end-game to further push players to be able to complete a pirate in it's entirety.
  • Diversify the symbols and badges used by the community better create a new atmosphere of competition (Albeit Laidback, or Competitive.)
The final point to this is that it DOESN'T have to be limited to Treasure. The example given is a way to increase the variation and add an incentive of sorts to completing Treasure collections, which thereby forces players to attempt looting or versing different opponents rather than being stagnant at the same few that seem to be the end-all-be-all of TLOPO's endgame.

A system of this sort, once in place, could easily be done in the same respect for Playing Cards, obtaining all 5,200 could give a badge of sorts, as well as more symbols to commemorate popular privateers, those who serve the community interest in gaining materials for a certain total goal, etc.

I bring this forth with the idea that I open this to all feedback players have to offer. There is no such thing as a wrong idea here, and there could be a ton of ways that I even missed when researching my ideas for this thread.

Let's talk.

I like the idea of more badges. However, I wouldn't be putting those symbols next to my name, not because I wouldn't be able to.

I would absolutely love to see something similar but with enemy kill counts. Maybe a new list you can see for each enemy type, Undead, Ghosts, Animal, Human, Jones' Crew. Then underneath those categories the specific bosses, and below that all remaining enemies of that type. A badge with a symbol denoting the enemy with a bronze, silver, gold, (green, blue, red?) outline around it (500, 1000, 3000 kills?) to put next to your name would be much more proudly worn next to my name. As well as seeing this next to any pirates name.

Seeing that someone has for example Leviathan in their hands is cool, but the luck aspect of the game allows many people to have such a weapon without much work. A golden Palifico badge next to their name however, would be very neat to see and more respected in my opinion.

The Navy Decorations are quite hard to complete since the Pirate Slayer Mark is rare to find. Other collections are easier. I've been working on all of them and have screenshots of my complete collections in a photo album here on forums. Not sure about this idea? Some reward for a complete collection would be fun, so would some kind of of usefulness.

Considering you and I are both veteran Destiny players, I can see how this would be an interesting idea. As you know, in Destiny 2, there are achievement badges that a guardian may wear upon completing the monumental tasks throughout the game. If work were to be put towards something along the similar lines in TLOPO, I'd be more than happy to support that addition. Great idea! I like the depth of your creativity on this suggestion.

I'd have to agree with Ben when he commended you on the depth of your creativity on this suggestion. I really appreciate full-winded forums post like this one. I can see that you've put decent thought into this idea! I do really like it, and without getting into details, I think one thing is clear - nametag badges showing accomplishments other than just PvP and SvS would add to the game! I'd love to see an addition along these lines!

This is exactly what I was thinking. There’s more to do in destiny than just loot, shoot, and raid, due to these titles. They are pinnacle achievements that you get to globally show off to other players. Yes, that’s literally the point, the devs said it themselves.

While these titles seem a little too simple to obtain, perhaps a title for finding all treasure would be in hand. Something creative, along the lines of “Treasure Finder,” or even as crazy as “Golden Eye.” Sounds even more piratey. Adds more depth than just trying to find legendaries and famed.

Overall a great idea!

Ahoy, folks! bla bla bla...
I like the idea of being able to use this token loot, as well as the cargo we get from sailing, as in the crates and other assorted wooden boxes.
I propose either selling it, or in the case of materials, using them, just like ship mats, etc.
So, when I loot a lucky charm, or whatever it's called, I'd like to see it actually have a function and do what it claims to do.
If I loot a string of pearls or a bangle, I would like the option of wearing it, or selling it.
While badges are nice, they do nothing for me personally.
Thanks for opening up some dialog regarding this aspect Misha!
