Experience as a Limited Access Player

Should limited access players be given at least a FEW more things?

After hearing limited access players whine for a while about "we hardly get anything, it's not fair"!
I decided to shut off unlimited access for a bit, to see if these were justified complaints.
Turns out, they are. I mean really, they can't level up past lvl 14. And it can even be hard to get
to that when all you can use is weak weapons and light ships. (Well, not so much the ships part
if you have a high level cannoneer.) But as I saw how little things they got, I realized that they
have every right to gripe and complain about it. I mean, couldn't Disney give them at least a little
more options? At least let them have common weapons and medium sized ships. I mean, some limited access players might just be poor and can't afford to make payments. This has been my report on the unfairness to limited access players.-Buddy Buckles

I think they deserve a little more too. Being in the situation I'm in, I know their pain. Not everyone can afford to spend X amount of money just out of the blue for subscriptions or whatnot. Also, some people (Like me), don't have any form of a credit card (Or personal income for that matter), and have to rely on outside sources for money. So, we're forced to spend extreme amounts of money and time for Game Cards (specifically) that only last so long, and in the end cost more more then a subscription, so we're basically wasting more money, because we don't have a credit card to charge too.

Anyway, (after my little mini-rant) I think they deserve something more to at least keep them entertained if they cannot afford or get the benefits of UA for whatever reason. Once you hit the cap, you've pretty much hit rock bottom. There is almost nothing (entertaining) left to do. Friends are about the only perk to being a maxed BA pirate. They deserve something more, right?

As I stated before in another thread, I think that PotCO could learn a lot from other MMO games. Let's take Star Trek Online for a moment ... on that game, you can max out your character at level 50, you can get ANY weapon or item, and many other features without spending a dime. Now, there are TONS of stuff that you have to pay for to use, such as special ships and clothing items, and STO makes lots of money that way. But the main difference between the two is, PotCO limits you so much that unless you really wanna know what it's like to be UA, you get sick of being BA and leave. STO gives you more freedom to make a cool character and level up and do stuff that it makes you wanna keep playing and not get super bored with it. (and in the end, we go home happy and they walk away with a profit -- so kinda win/win) lol that's my 2 cents :P

I have two accounts. My first account was basic for about 2 years, and my second account was UA off and on for quite a while. So I do know how it feels to be basic in the game. Its quite frustrating to not be able to do more, wear more, use more weapons and finish quests.

I have been saying since the notoriety and weapons level caps were increased that they should also increase a bit for the basic as well. I said for quite some time that they needed to be allowed to purchase and use all light ships, this of course was added with the ship upgrade update. But, I've also been saying for quite some time that they should be allowed to unlock and complete the dagger quest and then be able to use a basic dagger. These ideas are not unreasonable, and would still keep the majority of things locked and limited to UA.

Here is my thought:
Basic members Notoriety increased to lv 15 or 20 (leaving the grenades quest locked)
Weapon level to lv 10
Dagger quest unlocked allowing use of basic daggers (the dagger received in the quest could be made into a crude instead of common)
Clothes quests unlocked (the clothes could be made into crude instead of common)
Leaving the following for UA-
Notoriety cap to lv 50
Weapons cap to lv 30
Weapons upgrade quests locked
Grenades and Staff locked
Regular and war ships locked
Story quests locked.
Able to purchase peddler clothing
Able to wear Common and Rare clothing
And other things I'm forgetting

I do think that the story quests should remain locked. That is why people pay, to finish the stories and other quests. The extras like better clothes and weapons are a perk.

I also agree with Captain Star that all accounts should star with their first month free, or maybe two weeks free UA. This will give all players a chance to see what UA is like and decide then if they want to purchase.

If ye have experienced your pirates going between unlimited access and limited access ('basic') as much as I have, then you would probably agree that some type of change should be made.

For instance, I am a pirate :flag: whom loves to SVS...

*OK, so when I go "basic" I no longer have access to me best ships, favorite ammo, sailing/cannon skills nor rams.
Fine. I can live with that. But...reducing my mastered level/admiral SVS pirate to use of ROUND SHOT only on cannons is a joke!
:cannon:
Look at the issue this way. If a pirate was UA mastered but then is reduced to such limitations, shall we just stand around and not be allowed to help others on the game??? *I would think that developers could at least see the benefit added to the game to where some attributes permissible within basic play could do just that!

In conclusion, I feel that the level of play between UA access and basic play is grossly disproportional (for certain things on POTCO). IMO, this imbalance may actually hinder the game as far as the need to retain the overall player base within the isles of the Caribbean.

I think if the current limited access players played back in 2008, they would be much more grateful. Back then limited access players couldn't even play on a full screen. They had to play in a little box.

Also, can limited access players unlock daggers? I thought they could now. If they can, it didn't use to be like that.

Also back in 2008, LMP ( limited access players ) could only have they light sloop. Now they can have all the light ships. POTCO has given LMP more and more since the start of the game.

Unless it has changed or there is something new on the game that I am unaware about, limited access players cannot unlock much of anything (including their own 'boredom').

*Aye, ye have made several good points about things added over the past few years for limited access players but...these things came ONLY after the game developed additional things for UA players.

For limited access, it would be a kind gesture on Disney's part to make such decisions based upon the sole kindness of their heart and not just based upon "other" reasons.

Yeah i agree. Back in 09 i had a UA Ccount w/ dagger who went basic. He could still use dagger and UA clothes. Now they stripped Basic of everything

Well, I think that basic access players should be given at least a little more things in terms to do in the early game. At least POTCO should give them access to all clothing types (not classes such as rare, etc., but coats, etc.). Also I think they should be able to use a dagger, since it is a weapon you unlock at level 10, and as of now basic access can get to level 14. I'm not however saying that all quests and weapons should be granted to basic access, since POTCO is not a free to play game.
Games such as LOTRO have given players nearly unlimited access to the game without paying a cent, but I know that obviously POTCO is not doing as well as those games in terms of money made. Other games such as WOW allow players to do everything, but when they reach a certain level they can practically not do anything. My point is, at least give Basic Access player everything they can get between level 1 an 14.

yes unfortunatly the cvs cards were the only way I could go unlimited as I wouldn't use a credit card or debit on acount of my wife finding out! but hey just one month makes alot of difference as you can easily lever up to about 20 or more and be able to do more after that, me being limited for so long I think gave me an advantage as it made it harder to do things and it made me a better pirate in the long rum... I mean run
