I preferred the cutlass overall, but was there really any reason NOT to use a broadsword?
Yeah, the cutlasses and sabres may have looked or felt cooler to some people, but at the end of the day, you're going to use your broadsword more often if you've got any sense.

Broadswords most of the time, it was the only type sword that was even worth using.

A little off topic and a little rant-y, but since we're talking about broadswords it made me think of this. I'll put it in a spoiler, it's long lol.
Am I the only one who felt like weapons that attacked groups of enemies, like broadswords and blunderbusses, ruined the voodoo staff and made it completely useless? Before the looting update, everyone couldn't wait to get to level 30 and do their staff quest, because the staff was the only good weapon for attacking groups of enemies back then. Then the looting update came along, with Raven's cove quest appearing at level 30. Naturally, everyone shoved the staff aside and rushed to finish the Ravens quest, since the rewards were so much better. After that, the staff really became something you just mastered to have it look good on your player card. And Disney, not caring to help the dilemma they created, made it even worse and didn't bother putting any famed or legendary staffs in the games, so everyone who cared about collecting good weapons kept MAYBE 1 staff in their inventory, some people probably trashed them all together since they were so pointless. This is why I'm hoping TLOPO definitely adds famed, and maybe later on legendary, staffs. And also more inventory space, I hated throwing out things I really didn't want to trash when I found something a little bit better.

Sabres for aesthetics and quickness, broadswords for boarding (I had bejeweled and the +3 critical hits did wonders on colossus for me), and for individual power, cutlasses. I know that sounds like I voted for all, but frankly I liked certain actions for all. Blade storm was probably my favorite motion in the game, and favorite power was the stun action that would knock down an opponent. I got a real kick out of watching Naben the Silent fall on his rear and have to get back up again.

@Richard Seakidd I had a downside to broadsword, and it was called Tormenta. Sometimes you don't want all the pirates nearby attacking you at once. Depended on the case.

In Tormenta, it was pretty fun to have them all attacking you in the Gold Room or Thrall Room ;)

I liked the cutlass the most as it was the only type of sword before the additional broadswords and rapiers came about. I quickly found myself using broadswords as well, sometimes more than my beloved cutlass. I never really liked rapiers, they felt so weak. I only chose El Petron's Bitter End because I thought the freeze effect was cool.

Along with more inventory space, maybe make the Broadsword do max damage to the enemy being 'hit' and then have an AoE that is centered on the focused enemy at time of hit that does a fraction of the damage to surrounding enemies when using a broadsword? That way it becomes more focused like the other swords and actually has a trade off of slightly less single DPS but can chain between enemies for a fraction of the damage.
