Guild under attack

Punkin Pie

Pirate Lord
Masters and Skulls has been targeted again by the skum of the earth. For the past few hours, he has gotten into my guild through codes, right after we had promotions today.

First advice: Be careful who you promote. Someone gave him unlimited codes. He was in guild so far with 4 different pirates the last couple hours. All officers used their 5 allowed kicks, and it leaves me to sit at screen kicking them until it stops. He is asking my guild members for their acct info, and one of them, Dylan Tetil, gave it to him. Dylan Tetil has been stolen. The monster then tp to me with my friend Dylan's acct, ruined him in front of me.
This has to stop. REMIND YOUR GUILD MEMBERS
DO NOT EVER GIVE ACCT INFO AWAY.

Some people were worried my acct was hacked. It wasn't. We have to ban together somehow to stop this.
This has happened to our guild 2 times before. My guild is all friends and family. Some of these friends have better pirate lives than real lives. This hacker is taking away lives.

Some people just live to ruin others fun... Just as a general safety rule, (not saying s/he is saying this but) official Disney workers will NEVER ask for your account info. Anyone claiming to be with Disney corporation is most likely actually not with the Disney corporation. Also giving your account info. to ANYONE thats not yourself, is not a good idea. If anyone asks you for your info. the safest plan would be to report him/her and then switch servers. Keep you friends close and your info closer!

Our guild is strong and will not be ruined.

When the monster first got into our guild (quietly with a code) he started whispering to guild members for their acct info. That's how he took Dylan Tetil's acct. One of our members whispered to me, "Why is this guy asking us for our info, he said he was with Potco". I immediately kicked him, it was a new level 1 pirate he made.
He came back every few seconds, spamming us and saying terrible things. After 2 hours maybe, my awesome sister took over for an hour or so. He must have known I was afk on break, because it started again 5 minutes after I got back. He tp to me each time to make trouble. He doesn't realize how much trouble he is going to get into.

I'm also thankful that when I mentioned this to my aunt tonight, she told me that one of my uncles is a computer guru for the government and she called him. He can help find out who is doing this (though we know) but also help lock him up. I see it helps to tell your family problems like this, or else I wouldn't have known I could get help.

final statement: We Win.

Esme: :arrrrr: This is terrible! Sorry to hear of this happening...

*Question: Does yer guild actively play on a specific server most of the time? IF so, might be of the guild's best interest to change or alternate servers, rather than just sticking to just one server all of the time.

Also, inorder to help everyone out here on forums, which server(s) did this recently take place (if this even matters now at this point with all of the 'hacking' allowed to co-exist)?

Thank ye and sorry to hear of this news affecting yer guild. "Hang in there." ;)

I don't think he's doing anything illegal, and if he is.. its not big enough to get him locked up.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... *Sure it is not illegal but, considering the amount of time it takes for a player to "master" their pirate and his/her skills, it is still highly unethical!!!

Let's not forget that this hacker in particular is continually doing this on a regular basis...

If ye consider the amount of time, effort, and let's not forget - money (if ye are UA and yer account becomes 'hacked'), this act of some punk out there is nothing short of destruction of property and stealing, in my book.

If I were Disney, I would be highly concerned about this as both money (in the form of renewal subscriptions) and the company's reputation is suffering on account of this.

*In economics, they refer to this as "opportunity costs."

Yes. But, you can't put him in jail... and the federal government really doesn't care, and it would appear disney doesn't either.

I'm sorry to hear this - it really is unfortunate that this is happening to M&S. Hopefully whoever the hacker is will get bored eventually - you and your guild members need to be resistant to him and tough out this problem. It's the best solution. Avoid threatening him as well - just ignore him - you are sinking to his level by adding fuel to the fire, and it's just as bad.

These people are called sadists - they receive pleasure from inflicting pain and cruelty to others. If they don't receive their daily dose of pain (as weird as that sounds) they will most likely find other sources to obtain it from. Which, in turn, should not happen if people had the common sense to avoid these people.

Make sure all of your guild members KNOW and are AWARE of this person, and hammer it into their brains that giving away account info is a big NO-NO.

I have some helpful information on this Wiki blog post that I made a few weeks ago - be sure to spread this around, especially to any younger members you might have.

I gave this same talk to the guild a little while ago.

You build him UP when you put yourself DOWN. Just ignore him. His main goal is attention and reactions. If you don't show reactions like OMG and JUST LEAVE ALREADY GOSH, you discourage him. We need to continue on as an organized and happy guild.

"I don't think he's doing anything illegal, and if he is.. its not big enough to get him locked up."

Okay, let’s dispel some myths here.

Hacking is illegal and that in itself can be grounds for a criminal charge and a following ruling/sentencing if found guilty.

Here’s the bigger issue though and the easiest one to prove IMO. These accounts are paid for with money by private citizens. One paid for, those accounts then become the property of that citizen. Thus, once he steals that property he’s committed larceny—no way around it.

A single larceny charge is generally a misdemeanor right by itself. However, seeing as these are multiple events and seeing as these events most probably crossed multiple state lines, it absolutely becomes a felony—for sure. And the criminal COULD BE picked up on charges by the Feds as well—that’s completely up to them.

And NOW we're talking. He/She would do a lot of probation at the least if convicted.

BUT IF it can proven he stole from multiple victims crossing multiple state lines, he WILL do a little bit (to a lot a bit) of time in a juvenile corrections center or an adult prison depending on his age and the eventual outcome of his/her case.

As for the federal government not caring.... Ehh, I tend to agree with ya on this point, but it’s not a slam dunk on that point though—again, completely up to the Feds.

Local and state officials would absolutely care though, and if enough evidence can be presented against him, this person could very possibly do time. A lot of ifs, ands, and buts of course--the way the justice system works--but if caught and enough evidence is produced, well…… I think we all get the picture.

But to assume a case cannot be brought against them AND he/she would get off free as a bird is both unreasonable and unrealistic.

Make no mistake about it. He/She HAS committed a criminal offence already (larceny), no question. That part is already well established.

Now will anything be done about it??? <---- Therein lies the million dollar question.

Unfortunately... I doubt it. Disney doesn't seem to care and the players ask the GOVERNMENT for help - no likely. They aren't responding to the petition (much) and I have a feeling they aren't going to ask the govt. for help either.

All the players that are getting hacked need to think it over. There's a small chance someone is using a high - tech hacking device that is decoding all the passwords and stuff. The game is only four years old - it's not like there are easy ways to hack into it. That being said, the players are getting hacked because they are TELLING the person their password and username. Disney is technically doing there part by constantly warning players about this. If players give their un and pw away - that's their problem. BUT if they were hacked by that malicous program - that's when Disney needs to do more.

He looks at threads like these and feels proud of himself, these threads keep him going.
Aye. Never looked at it, that way. Hmmm... (scratches head)

Without focusing too much on this, I just wish the extent of such "trickery" was known, so as to have everyone on the same page as to what is actually going on.

I'm not gonna make this long because everything has mostly been said. You have my efforts and our guilds support in these troubling times. I know your pain and those same moments of officers getting deleted in front of you have been shared between us and many other GMs I imagine. It's hard to even pretend your having fun when this is going on. I know I was disgusted the whole time it was going on, but put on a face for your guild. I'm sure you do already. Keep up the great work, and your an awesome GM. Times like this work themselves out, just keep your cool, and everyone in Masters will be cool too.
