I remember back when I was much younger we lived in a small neighborhood. There was this one house that gave out large bags of candy. That paired with the other houses giving out full candy bars led to all four of my siblings and I each receiving a full grocery bag of candy! Those were the days. :)

EDIT: Also, first. :p

Third grade costume contest, Dad put together a robot costume. He glued a bucket on to a trash can with holes cut for the arms and legs. The arms and legs had dryer vent hose that I stuck my arms and legs thru and the arms had gloves attached to the ends, and painted the whole get up chrome. Well, after an hour under that glued on and painted bucket, I started getting real light headed. Teachers couldn't understand why I couldn't walk a straight line behind the rest of the kids in the Halloween parade. They agreed I couldn't walk the parade. Costume got an honorable mention, but no prize for all my suffering.

When I was young Halloween was a family time. We would get into our costumes and mom and dad would drive us to our aunt and uncles where other extended family members would meet. Us youngsters would be turned over to our older cousins to be taken out into the community to go trick or treating and of course the stories told us by the older cousins to create within us youngster a sense of fear (to a lesser degree) and wonder. The harvest of much candy off-set the stories effects. A not so remarkable 'holiday' at the time made into a wonderful family event! <sigh>

When I was little there were scares of crazy people giving out apples for treats with razor blades in them. I remember having to wait till we were finished trick or treating and having my parents comb over ever single piece of candy to make sure it was safe to eat. I think all that waiting made the candy even better when we finally got it!

I had four brothers(two sisters), three brothers were older and had to escort us around our neighborhood while we were younger. We went to about twenty or thirty homes,,,lotsa good stuff! And every house had lights and decorations or porch light lit signaling candy was at hand! I was about seven and it was very cold that Halloween(I wore an old formal gown of my moms altered to fit), and my gran's old fur shoulder stole instead of my kiddy coat. By the third or fourth house we had a pack of neighborhood dogs following us at a distance, or in hedges(that fur really smelled). Our older brothers kept telling my younger brother and I that werewolves were after us(was a nice big moon too that night)....but we'd be fine as long as we gave candy to our brothers to give/throw at them. Yeah, we didn't know bros ate the candy and threw pebbles from our drive they had filled their pockets with til mom did laundry next day.
:ghost::trick or treat:

My favorite memory was our family Halloween tradition of driving a few towns over at midnight to go through a corn field maze. The maze eventually would lead you to a cemetery filled with Ghosts, Goblins, and the occasional Frankenstein. After a night of screams and sibling picking, it was home for hot chocolate, popcorn, and a movie.
