I made a thread like this yesterday but no one was interested. Of course if I had a nice shiny medal to give away maybe it would be different lol.
Here's my Halloween memory..
I have only gone Trick or Treating once in my life and I have never forgotten it. And every Halloween the memory comes back to me like it was yesterday.
I have mostly grown up in the forests of Finland or the British countryside so I was a naive and quiet girl.
Socialising with people I didn't know was very hard and I was totally lost when it came to big cities.
We lived at my brothers for about 6 months in London while we were waiting for our house sale to go through and looking for a place in Brighton where I was born.
Halloween was coming and my brother could not believe I have never been Trick or Treating and was so excited to get us costumes. So we had our costumes and something for our candy.
I was nervous but so excited at the same time and London is so big I was bound to get tons of candy!
So we headed out at about 8pm. We rang at 2 doors and no one answered (possibly out partying or Trick or Treating themselves).
After ringing the bell of the third door a light came on. *excitement builds*. A voice from behind the door asks whos there and me and my brother said in a jolly voice Trick or Treat!
The door opened and the man went into another room..*going to get some candy I thought).
But no... The man returns and points a gun at our heads! He says '' How stupid do you think I am! You come to the door pretending to be Trick or Treaters then attack me and rob my house! If you don't leave now I will blow your brains out!'' *Points the gun right between my eyes*
At this point to me, the world had stopped, I had no idea at that point how to react. This was not a bear in the woods..this was a human in a big city.
My brother took his mask of and explained that his little sister has never experienced Trick or Treating and had never been in a big city and told me to remove my mask to show the man my pale tear streaked face.
The man finally lowered his gun and apologised. He then went away and came back with an apple for me.
My brother was so furious he used the apple to make a statement to the man and left it on his doorstep. I don't agree with my brothers action but I can understand his anger, he was so excited to give his little sister an amazing experience. But now I'm much more experienced in city life and wiser, and I also understand the mans fear and suspicion. (I was 13 years old and my brother was nearly 30 in a scream mask so we weren't exactly little children lol)
We went home after that. Never went again.
Its odd because this was a bad memory but I lost my brother a few years ago and now this memory brings my brother back to me every Halloween
