As many of you know there is a "new PotCO" currently under dev. What a lot of you didn't know is that Disney never game another remake the rights that they claimed to have. The email was forged, if you look, the email is wrought with grammar and spelling errors. Think about it, another remake claimed to use the same files as the ones from POTCO; How is it that they have almost nothing done yet they claim to already have the files? Disney offered to sell the rights for 10k which another remake never paid for. For those who were around long enough on another remake, you would know that they stated that the game would be non-profit and that donations would not he required. Now they are taking money? They called PotHS a scam every chance they got but where is the another remake community's money going? To the forums? The site is a year license, why would they need all the money now with nothing to show for? Espeically with all of their "Unpaid" devs? I am asking you all to contact Disney about another remake gaining members and money under Disney's name. So copy and paste this message:

Hello, I am emailing you in regard to the recently started game Pirates Online Rewritten. They are currently in development but I need to talk to someone about the more pressing issues with it. I am aware that Disney had recieved several emails already but I am not sure if you are aware that Pirates Online Rewritten has started to take donations. They claimed to have gotten the rights from Disney when I am aware that they faked the email and that Disney informed them that they would sell the rights for 10,000 which was never paid. Pirates Online Rewritten gained most of its members from the use of your name claiming to be the same exact files which in return profitted them tremendously. There is no game to show for those donations either, members have no ides where the money is going. This needs to be stopped before it is taken farther. If you do not care about a forged email and the use of your name without your consent then at least be worried about them taking people's money after their previous statements. If you would like to investigate further then there is a link here:

If you would like to contact a site admin the site owner's skype is here: Tom.fury
He however refused to give me his email.

Thank you for helping. I understand this thread will likely be deleted but at least I could help open the eyes of both members and hopefully Disney.

pretty sure most people now know getting permission from Disney to make another remake was a lie. I remember before I left the another remake forums people were talking about it and staff never said anything about it to change our minds or prove they had permission. usually they are incredibly defensive towards criticism and stuff like that but they never even commented on several public discussions where people were showing proof that the email was fake. although i don't think they need Disney's permission to make the game

@Snivelwhipps Getting the files isn't too hard. If I'm not mistaken, another remake figured out how to disassemble the bytecode in July. From there it can be run through decompyle or a similar program, formatted with a PEP8 formatter, split into the appropriate directories, and accompanied by __init__.py so Python recognizes them as valid modules.

TTR has released their OTP-like daemon as open source under the BSD license at https://github.com/Astron/Astron, and if I'm not mistaken the distributed class files for POTCO can be reverse-engineered from the game files too.

That's not to say there's nothing to do.. there'll be plenty of things to be corrected before a playable version of the game would be ready, and some files may have decompiled incompletely or uncleanly. Nevertheless it is completely plausible to think they may get everything working in harmony someday.

As for piracy... I don't think it's right to profit off of Disney's intellectual property, but that aside if the project was well managed and pleased players without causing so much controversy.. I don't think Disney would intervene.

Going to close this thread to replies, but leave it up in the interest of "free speech." However that's not to say I endorse the message personally.

For a similar discussion you may see: https://piratesforums.co/threads/toontown_rewritten-as-the-emulator-guinea-pig.9828/ or search around, as there have be a handful of threads on this issue. It's simply easier for us to contain the discussion to a few threads as it has proved to be a bit unwieldy.

No comment on the legitimacy of the email or the donations.
