Hey guys this is a post made for one reason: getting everyone refamiliarized with the game! All you need to do to help is reply with a tip for the game for new players or older ones that forgot a lot about it. You can reply something as small as I is open inventory or anything important many people dont know (i wont list anymore examples so that you guys can think of some):swords::pirates::pirate ship:REMEMBER TO SPREAD THE WORD AND MAYBE LIKE THIS THREAD!

Please, so that everyone can help, dont post a ton of links and guides just make a single command or two

When deciding upon what SVS/privateering (sailing) skills to keep, do away with that "Treasure Sense." (Just toss that puppy out like yesterday's [empty] bottle of rum).

A common thing I do is catch a large shark for example, carry him up near surface, then let him take my bait. Then let him eat a tiny fish (allows him to get heavier, giving me a few more gold) and then recatching him.

A few I've learned from my years playing POTCO
  • Press "F9" to take a screenshot, you'll want to save those memories!
  • It's better to level up all your skills evenly than to master 1 skill at a time (except grenades, start to level up those suckers as soon as you get them)
  • Do some research about what different skill points do before upgrading: you'll be a much more effective sailor, looter, pvp-er, etc. if you have your skills set up for how you play the game.
  • If you're new, read the hints that come up on the loading screen. A lot if the information is surprisingly helpful if you don't know much about the game.
  • The end-of-the-world glitch, although frowned upon by some members of the community, is an incredibly fast and easy way to level up your sailing skill.
  • Loot. Is. Random.
I'll post more later if I think of anything else! ;)

Can you give more info on this or provide a link?
Basically: you first get a bounty on your ship. Then sail to the end of the world and position your ship so it's at a slight angle to the right, still moving at a decent speed. The Bounty Hunter or Warship will always stay very close to the left of your ship, and its broadsides and cannons will always almost always miss if you have your ship positioned right. This is great for farming materials and sailing/cannon rep because you have an infinite supply of high level ships that can't do any real damage to you.

That's also why it's frowned upon by some, because it really is exploiting the game to level up easier.

I racked up so much gold like this, I hopes its not patched... for old times sake :gold:

Okay, here's one: always stay either in front of or behind the ship you are attacking (unless it's weak enough that it doesn't really matter). This is the strategy I used to use for getting a bounty on my head with my light sloop - sail behind the ship (something with big cargo and large area on the. back, like a colossus or a man o' war), broadside, immediately switch to cannon, fire at the hull until it starts to get at an angle where it can hit your ship. Once it starts to turn to that angle, full sail/come about in order to get behind it again. It's easier/better to get behind it than in front of it because there's a bigger area to hit and all the damage will be concentrated on the back rather than scattered throughout the left/right hulls.

It's not patched, I've already gone to end of world to make sure we can sail there still... I just hope the holes are the same--remember how far East and far West sides had holes where their sotl would fall off the edge? This is another "glitch" I hope they keep
