i mean lets imagin [dot dot dot]
what iff there was a rvolution in POTCO and ppl would start wanting changes and fixes and all the new stuff,i mean to be honest,in my whole piracy life (wich you can know more about by visiting my thread in stories section) i NEVER met a pirate who was happy about how disney ran POTCO i mean what if we started conquering port royal, mmmm and theyd send us GMs to KO us,and all that, heyy if we thought about it,its not that far away from us players to do that,i mean ive seen mini gatherings were they had thoughts as banners displaying ther protests lol it was funny but i had a flash forward where ppl protested for fixes in the POTCO system,,after all where are not that far away from it happening, and i leave the discussing to you folks

note from writer:this thread is [COMEDY] -hint hint ;)-

:lol1: Val ... you and your randomness ...

I'm going to try to summarize what Val said up there, and please correct me if I'm wrong. He saw events on the game (in Potco) where pirates gathered and they protested/demanded/complained about things on the game that they were unsatisfied about. Those happened on GM events and also on sporadic gatherings of pirates. Those pirates spoke in "thought bubbles", comparable of mass protests in real life where ppl were holding banners with the items they were protesting about. Some GMs were known to ban some pirates/players and kicked them out of the game if the GMs (who were also real Moderators of the game in Disney Potco) thought they were 'over the line' with their comments.

So Val's question was, if there was an event like that (where pirates were doing a mass protest) on the game, would you join in? Or would you not, since you didn't have any complaint towards Potco and were completely happy with the game? Or would you not, since you'd probably think it was pointless because Disney Potco team was not going to listen to pirate protesters anyway? Or would you, because even though they might not listen, but it would still be fun thing to do?

In all honesty, we have different voices of being 'a pirate' on the game, and being 'a player of a pirate' in real life. Meaning our 'voice' (read: opinion) is heard more by Disney Potco, if we channel it as a player in real life; typing feedback, doing live-chat, or through a forum like this, than our voice protesting on the game on a GM event or a random gathering. From experience, we could notice that GMs hardly answered directly to questions, comments, protests, demands, complaints about the game. We know that those gatherings were closely monitored by Potco Moderators (other GMs) behind the scene, so I'm almost sure that they knew that some pirates made comments/protested about some things. But they chose to ignore them. Why? I guess because - if it was on a GM event - they had an agenda for that event to get done. And also, the game was designated to be played with activities that have been provided to execute. There was no room for 'city hall meeting' with GMs for hearing or forum discussion like in Greek republic era. The game is not geared to accommodate that. Yes, they sometimes responded, but not to negative comments.

In other words, even though social life and activities are formed on the game, and GMs (or Potco Moderators) could not prevent gatherings of pirates to do whatever they want, including to 'protest' (by flying 'banners'), protests on the game will not go anywhere. It will not reach a goal to make game designers or Disney Potco decision makers grant pirates' wishes, if that's what those pirates are trying to do. Yes, Potco Moderators will ban foul language or improper discussion based on Disney terms & conditions. But they can't prevent protests. At the same time, they are not obligated to respond either. So as pirates, we don't have that much influence to affect decision makings for the game.

However, we - as players of the pirates in real life - have much more power and 'could' influence decision making and game designing, if we voice our opinions through the right channels. From experience, even though a lot of our protests, complaints, demands, requests, suggestions have not been answered yet, some have materialized on the game. It shows that Disney Potco did listen to us, players. To what extent and how fast, that's a whole different story ... :D

My point is, that it IS actually pointless to protest on the game, but it is encouraged to voice your opinions as players tirelessly. We players would like this game to progress; that's why we are motivated to give feedback to make it better and more enjoyable to play. That's the goal. So don't get discouraged thinking that our voices are unheard by Disney Potco. Instead, channel it properly, through emails, feedback forms, live-chats (possibly) and forums like Pirates Forums. And - hopefully - we will get answers. The positive ones. ;)

Yes, true on the first part, I agree with you. The problem is not whether Disney "should" listen to ppl who are the reason for them to have jobs (that's pretty obvious, the answer has to be 'yes'), but whether they "would" listen or not. And pirates' screams on the game have been proven to be ineffective. Feedback from players of the pirates, through filling out feedback forms, emails or even media like this Forums are more effective to catch their attention. It's about the 'media'; where you voice your opinion.

That's true in most cases but whether it's from lack of workers, technology, creativity or care, POTCO [staff] does do a poor job at listening to their Players(customers) through feedback, forum discussions or in-game protests(never been part of one)... I don't think anything players have asked for has been added within the year it was asked and i don't think that the % of the players who succeeded in this is that high. That can be noticed just by the age of POTCO and what the game offers in content and game play.

True, and I realize that percentage is not high at all, that Disney Potco even granted our wishes. But sending feedback is the way they 'choose' to receive complaints, suggestions, protests or whatever. Not in game. The way I saw this because in GM events, for instance, there were always pirates who asked anything, any topic outside what the event were intended for. Some asking whether we could get any tip on getting legendary weapons, or when the next update about something was, etc. And GM tended to dismiss those kinds of questions. I'm pretty sure they 'heard' those questions, just was not willing to answer right on that spot. I never saw yet (maybe I missed it or unaware if there was any), that GMs created an event to open up to any question pirates had, including venting about their dissatisfactions.

As for feedback, concerning the game improvement, not many that we saw have materialized. But some (or most) of them have something to do with a lot changes in decision making on what direction this game is going to go. And we have discussed this so many times on other threads, that it involves money, strategy, change of perspective, and so on. One thing that I could see that our voice was heard, was that so many players had sent in requests to recognize Bill Ironskull in some way. And Potco granted the 'easiest' thing they could do, which was honoring him with a title (Savvy Swashbuckler), instead of granting the harder wish of pirates, such as naming a beach after Bill's name (which would cause changing/adding on game design to put that name in there). But at least it showed us that they did listen.

Customization of ships had long been requested, and I can't prove what took that long for Disney Potco team to grant the wish (probably it went up to the decision maker to put it on the master plan of game update/project for 2011), but I've heard players asked for full customization such as capability of modifying numbers of cannons and where to put them, adding deck and rooms below deck, etc. None of them were granted, but actually when we asked to at least give us capability to change sail color and more names, at least Disney Potco made that happen. I believe most probably those requests came from official feedback through the online feedback forms or emails, rather than pirates' screams on GM events or in-game gatherings.

I'm lvl fifty, so it gets really boring when there are no quests. So that would be a lot of entertainment to protest.

Lol, a bunch of animated pirates protesting in thought bubbles... Sounds like it'd be fun if it were to happen...

Disney won't listen, though, and a lot of people would possible get banned for nothing. Better to send feedback, live chat, bug reports, etc..
Though I'm not exactly sure that'd work well either, or the game would be epic by now.
