I have nothing but appreciation for the amazing work the devs have been continuously putting into TLOPO, so I just want to make it clear that this post is only to get an idea of how high priority this feature is and when it can be expected. As of yet, cannon and sailing items are in the game however their effects have not yet been implemented. I have seen many people comment asking when they will be added to the game and I might assume that many users, myself included, eagerly anticipate the day when the various powerful items they have collected will allow them to take sailing and gunning to a new level. Can we hope for any news on this topic?

I think these items will be working again once cannon defense is fixed.

Personally, I rank this as the #2 problem in the game, just behind boss loot being wrong. I'm sure it is being worked on.
