IRC Inquiry

Pirate Lord
Good evening, just found this game and love Pirates. I checked out the IRC and it states by invite only. I realize I was looking at older posts but what does this mean. at this time.

Hi, I may be lacking some details here, but from what I recall there has only ever been one official IRC channel. The channel in question, as luck would have it, shut down a couple of weeks ago.
The majority of players have moved on to discussion channels in an app called Discord, which is similar to Skype or Teamspeak. There are no official TLOPO channels, but the fan-made channels are still worth checking out!
A directory can be found here.

Thanks. I have no reasons for a discord and not involved enough for needing something outside this community as it is.
I saw the tread about beta keys sometimes being given away there. I have no problems getting into the game without a key and spending whatever it takes to acquire one during play. Just thought, what the heck might as well check irc thing out, never know.

Matter of fact, I was just going to wait until my reserve time and thought the beta key was a paid deal and wasn't looking into it anyhow until I saw free.
I like free.

They closed the IRC, there is a unoffical tlopo discord directory . but other then that, the IRC has closed down due to them wanting to focus more on in-game moderation than the IRC.

Thanks. Haven't been here but a few hours and can not intelligently judge or give opinions about this community and it probably wouldn't be proper at this early time.

You probably know this but... if anyone offers to sell you a key, it's a scam. Everything related to TLOPO will be 100% free for us :D
That's great and a wonderful thing. Hard to find. Do you think this is strong enough to support paid subs? Or is there already in game real reals options. I really want to try this game too. I have read about the keys and understand the concept.

I'm not sure what you mean by "real reals options". If you're asking about funding or anything along those lines, TLOPO does not accept donations, they fund it themselves and have stated they are perfectly fine when it comes to funding.

Yes I was. I've been around games all my life, and I know it's not cheap, either running this website or keeping designers in starbuck bucks.
I think it's perfectly fine at some point that all the people who worked so hard all this time could actually see some sort of monetary award.
It's even sweeter for the people doing this out of a labor of love to actually get paid a little for doing what most wouldn't consider work. But it is and it takes time.
I'm not trying to start any friction here with the question. If I enjoy this Pirate journey as much as I hope to, paying a small booty would be a no brainer. I'm pretty sure this topic is covered elsewhere.
I'll also discontinue this line of debate as I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable or get run off the plank the first day.

I never played the Disney version and I don't know what to expect.

They can't accept money due to legal constraints as well as just wanting to provide a free game for us :) Oh and you aren't causing any friction no worries, I just wasn't sure if I understood your question properly. I know what you're saying, this staff really is generous but the best reward we can give them is our support and loyalty :D

Make the devs feel like Pirate Royalty! (Without the paying tribute and being unable to say what you want)

TLOPO is going to be very... actually almost identical to the Disney version- just free, a new island, and... more detailed water! The water will be s detailed, you'll want to get a drink every 5 minutes you're on the ocean.
Point is, TLOPO won't be much different from Disney's POTCO, except that there are no subscriptions, and new content.

Just to provide some staff reassurance, Stephen is totally correct - we do not accept monetary awards in any form. That means no donations, gifts, or anything else. The only thing we ask for is your continued love and support for the game by playing it, being a great member of the community, and helping one another out!

The game is, and will forever be, 100% free for all players. We just want you to have fun :)

Appreciate the offer, but we can't/won't accept any money. And despite any rumours floating around, we are perfectly capable of funding project-related expenses for the foreseeable future.

And no worries about friction, we have dealt with a lot worse questions/issues than this over the last few months/years.

One final note: Sorry to remain veered off-topic, I see this is an IRC-specific thread, but wanted to answer this question here since it was brought up.

lol..I think I'm going to like it here but I gotta say I think you swabs drank too much salt water. Throw on another crate of limes in the bow because I might be out to sea for a while pillaging-(in Legend of Pirates of course), soon. But I'll try and be a contributor in any way I can.
Did I mention I like free?

Hope to see the action soon.

NP.. I veered it off as the question was actually answered. So now I don't know where it's headed or if it's already scuttled.

It was nice while it lasted though.
