Usually Bounty Hunters can carry iron, pine, and canvas materials. Warships can carry any material, including the rarer steel, oak, and silk items.

In the part of the Wiki that I just looked at it didn't say that regular mats could or couldn't be found on warships but it did say rare mats could not be found on hunters. Nevertheless, warships will always drop a rare mat chest and occasionally a bonus loot or gold type chest or crate but never a regular mat chest. Hunters will always drop a regular mat chest and, like warships, occasionally one of those bonus items but never a rare mat chest. If the Wiki says something different it should be corrected.
