Is trading coming or not?

Many people are wondering if trading will come to the game, I believe it will but because of the biggest update they have ever done was the brig (the game jumped to more members since the release so it's bigger then the island update.) I don't think we will see it until a few more months go by. It was big part of the pirate life so i imagine it will be a cross between our inventory view and potions mini game, so they already have the software in the game they just need to re configure the settings and "game islands" to set it stone.

I'm in Leo and Bad's boat on this one... while i stand hopeful for it... i will not hold my breath... if someone from inside the game sees trading as a way for alot of folks to get cheated since (I can't imagine what they see positive or negative)and it obviously wont get tested long enough to figure out all the kinks in the system... i just see it going poorly...and then those poor folks on the Abassa beach would have more to shed tears over. Someone would exploit it and find a way for it to get removed... just how i see it
Optimistic but staying Realistic

Agreed but this be why you don't trade with random people and they will most likely have a "scam detect system" in place because the don't want the gold glitch to come back. I avoid abassa at all costs because when you are a high level people just want to pvp and find fault with everything one could find fault to.

:D I totally understand what you're saying. I guess, for people like me who don't have time to loot for 10 hours a day and then get a famed doll ...every... single...time... when I actually do have time to loot(I've gotten over 50 btw)), it would be nice. xD Either way, I hope they add it. But... this game has taught me to have lots of patience. rofl
Thanks! I was feeling a little hated for a while lol. Off the record, I think trading might be cool. But, if someone came up to me today and said, "Here, have El Patron Sword" I would say, "No thanks" (then shoot myself) idk :D

Understood but as the most traveled Server i figure it to be the Prime example on where the system would fail.

I personally would not care for trading. I see too much potential abuse with it, and bet it would give the moderation team an unneeded headache.

Personally, I feel like the Disney crew should give REAL consideration and effort to Trading because it could save the game. But, on the flipside I recognize all the potential problems as well complications it could add.

The main issues with trading:

1) Fair compensation. Whatever system they come up with MUST protect both sides of the deal, otherwise pirates would be getting ripped off all the time. You must be able to approve the item and the buyer must approve payment before the swap can happen. Otherwise, a third party like an NPC Pawn Shop would have to be created.

2) Insurance - In a game plagued by lag and odd hiccups, losing an item or payment during trade is likely to occur - even if only on rare occasion. There would need to be some protection in case your items didnt swap.

3) Inventory - Even with the sizeable storage given to players some time ago, perhaps adding a catch-all Trading Bin or Storage Chest may be needed to keep trade items.

Possibly evolution of trading:

With Ship Customization, trading of used ships becomes an actual market. Pirates who are skillful plunderers would be able to craft custom vessels then sell them to eager pirates. This could lead to -

Smithing

If new crafting skills (Blacksmith, Gunsmith, Shipwright, Potion Alchemist, Mapmaker, etc.) for customizing weapons or objects are added a later date, pirates effectively become craftsmen or merchants. Why struggle to find that famed sword when an artisan blacksmith can craft one for you by upgrading a rare sword with additional abilities?

This ONE change could create an entire economy and motivate many players into becoming more invested in their pirate.

Ah, the mysteries of life. We can only hope... But, one thing that still bothers me is, people are too impatient. We, as the players, don't even have the slightest clue as to what it takes to plan, design, animate, etc. things for the game.

Yeah they should really fix that. By having a video or announcement of what's coming to the game in 2012 much like Blizzard does when they discuss their next "expansion" to World of Warcraft. :fight:

I could give you a super duper fancy explanation as to why I think trading would be a big N.O, but i'm just going to say this: People with good items will get bothered all the time. In any case, earning weapons/clothes would become worthless since they would become trade-able, and I know that people seek respect/power/validation/etc by earning the valuable things enemies drop.

JOHN CAN I PLEASE GET A COUPLE LEGENDARY WEAPONS. PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE. I PROMISE I WILL DO WHAT EVER YOU WANT. I WILL EVEN PAY YOU A MONTH MEMBERSHIP...

LoL that's the dark side...But...

Overall i think trading should have already been out. About every MMORPG allows players to trade in some way. With a good system, i think it would be a very positive addition to the game. It is more of a progressive than a regressive update. As long as it is made fair for both trading parties, it should be added. The drama effects are really up to the players then. I don't think Disney can be blamed for the drama as it's out of their control and the game is being played by real people. Though there is probably no full solution to the drama effect, If done right even drama could be reduced to a minimum where it shouldn't be a problem.

Doubt it and it's like when ordering a package. The more you check for it to come the longer it takes. If you forget about it suddenly you'll hear a doorbell. Hopefully it isn't delivered by this guy
I was astounded when I saw this on YouTube for the first time. Why would someone do such a thing? :skullpeak:

I've always loved the idea of player trading. However the thing that gets me is people say that people will be cheated. The simplest fix to this, is simply have a system where you have to press a certain button in order to confirm the trade. Or click yes or something along those lines. That way nobody can complain about being cheating, because you would have made the choice to accept the trade. Also, for anyone who thinks it Won't ever come, check this out. http://piratesonline.go.com/#/game_info/day_in_the_life.html I know this is very old, but it is still a possibility. I'm very optimistic about everything that we want, because I think that Disney is starting to realize that the game is going nowhere fast. It has great potential, yet they do nothing good with it. I give it 6 more months a year at max before we get what we want.

Not necessarily. Thats why i said there should be some type of fair system where you cant trade a legendary for a common weapon. For example, legendarys should be traded with another legendary or famed. Than you have a message telling you if you are sure you want to trade it. It would have to be a little complicated because of course there would be whining, crying and drama if it was trade anything for anything or anything for free... If it was like that, you would have level 5's asking for famed and legendarys :p
Good Idea, but what if you have a friend who has a repeat legendary, and you have nothing he wants, yet he wants to trade it with you. Then what would you do? I think there should just be a confirmation system, where both parties must approve the trade, and make sure that they are trading what they want to. That way everyone is happy. (In that Transaction At least)

I also said in an earlier post that you could trade something for gold but it would have to be a fair amount of gold. For example, all legendarys could be traded with only 5 k gold or more... or some other price(lower or higher). Of course, in any way that is added, there NEEDS to be a confirmation process where as I said both agree to the trade and know that the items cannot be retrieved unless you trade them back.

Aye, that way people can't be scammed, and if they are it's their own fault.

The only thing that scares me are hackers. Even in the forum someone posted about being hacked. Right now, there isn't much that a hacker can profit hacking another player other than just being plain rude, mean and making the other person angry/sad. So if there are hackers where no in-game benefit exists, I can't imagine when that changes. I think that there would start to be more hackers around which would now lead to security problems. So that leads to something new. A solution. The game needs to have some protection program or some security measures that protect individual accounts. This doesn't have to necessarily come at the same time as the trade update, but needs to be considered depending on the first couple months. If nothing wrong is going on, than maybe it doesn't need to be considered at all.
