Jolly Roger's curse

Element

Swashbuckler
Okay so I indeed noticed the red heading over the site and the news on the launcher, saying that Jolly Roger has placed a curse on the Caribbean. I know that this usually means that the game is down for some fixes, but time slots can be made and the game can still be ran? Are we being allowed to play while the devs work on this fix that will be published sooner or later? I'm a little confused as to what is going on right now haha

Yes, you can play. The devs are using the banner to indicate that they're aware of the pre-existing issues we're all facing. Good decision on their part.

I can't even enter the game. All it says for me is 'Checking for updates', then the game opens and closes instantly!
Is this your first time opening the game? If you're on Windows 10 make sure you pick OpenGL in display options. I had the same issue myself and turns out DirectX9 was selected.

I think it could be DirectX related. I can't guarantee that the fixes listed below will work, however I've compiled a list of possible solutions (which I hope fix your problems).

A few solutions may be:
  • Running the launcher as administrator (right click, run as administrator)
  • Turning off antivirus software/adding TLOPO folder contents to exception list, all while ensuring DLLs not deleted by antivirus
  • Go to control panel, "programs and features", "turn windows features on and off", then tick "Legacy components" and apply.

Drivers and installers that might be required:
If your problem still persists, the best option would be to wait for the upcoming update. Best of luck. ;)

Thanks, I am running the directX installer now to see if mine was corrupt. I dont get why tho, nothing changed since I was able to play before the shutdown.

I've been playing steep for the last hour and a half to give me something to do while it was supposedly down. I'm able to connect and it seems like everything works fine so far.

I followed those steps, but it doesn't seem to work. Nothing changed, but thanks anyway.

Edit: I now chose to play in compatibility mode with Windows 7, and it appears to be working!

Ok did everything including deleting and reinstalling the game, d/l .dll file, made sure i am in opengl and still get message that d3dx9_42.dll is missing. I put it in the file manually and also have DirectX10 on my computer. Something is wrong with the game files, not with my computer.
I say again, it worked just fine before the big downtime.

I had the same issue as well when I first tried to launch the game. I had to manually install the .dill file then extract it to copy it in the (C: )Windows/System32 file folder and then do the same for the TLOPO file folder and its been working fine for me since. Not sure if it will work for everybody but it worked for me. (I used a Youtube video to make sure I was doing it correctly lol)

But Jack, If it were the game files we would have that issue as well.

For me it runs fine, all i did was remove all the current files and reinstalled, then i got to the launcher and chose OpenGL and like someone mentioned, Anti Virus can remove files, have it turned off while installing the game and updating it.

That's all i did to get it to work... And of course you could manually install the .dll file like Jade said.
