That is not the same as POTCO, the sailing, loot, weapons, and everything is somewhat different than POTCO is. What you are saying here is copy EXACTLY how POTCO is, which is illegal and would end in a lawsuit.

We are basically making a brand new game, with the same mechanics of POTCO, so copyright will be less of an issue.

They obviously can't copy the name of the characters. They can though use the sailing, looting system, and different names for weapons. Disney can't and doesn't own sailing, looting and weapons. As far as anything else goes, they could probably keep Tortuga, Cuba, somewhat Port Royal and Padres-as the are real islands. The others are made up.

True, they also need different designs for characters and weapons etc. they cannot resemble POTCO weapons, ships, NPCs, islands, etc

Name For The Game: Pirates: Lords of the Caribbean. (sorry can't think of really good one)
Would You Play A POTCO ReMake: Yes
Most Important To Keep The Same: Ship PvP, Ship customization, ease of access to good ships, an easy to use combat system.
Most Important To Change: Grahpics, looting system, body styles, clothing, quests, add more pets, companions?, a more steady connection to the game and a better engine then Panda3D

I believe that as long as you write your own code and is non profit (which is the problem most emulators have) you can still use the characters and islands and such, as it would be called a fan creation I believe. Don't quote me on it just look it up as I don't remember all the details as I read something about it almost a year ago while dealing with the Star Wars Galaxies Emulator.

Names: Clash of the Seas, Piracy Online, Age of Piracy

Would you play a POTCO remake? The answer is YES, YES, YES, YES.

Most Important to Keep the Same: Not sure...too much copyright loopholes we'd need to get around.

Most Important to Change: Most, if not all, aspects.

Names: Some good suggestions from Gastro. Age of Pirates may imply "age of empires" type game but something similar would be great.

Would you play a POTCO remake? Absolutely

Most Important to Keep the Same: Crews, guilds, multiple ways to play the game (follow quests, plunder, work alone or with a group, pvp, sailing/land etc). Keep sailing as a crew. Multiple servers for more/less busy play. Keep leaderboards.

Most Important to Change: lag and hacking. Personally I hate pvp and svs because too many people cheat.

Considerations:
  • Is this a world that you want to keep developing forever or will it be a set world where players will eventually max out? Consider making a location that is very tough even for maxed out players so there is always a challenge. Let players know if the game has an end rather than leading them on with promises of future updates.

  • Check out Burning Seas. The game is nice but takes a steep learning curve. One thing Disney did well was to keep the game simple enough for anyone to get started quickly.

Name For The Game:
  • Pirates: A New Horizon
  • Pirates: Landfall (Like we left sailing to find a new home or something blah blah blah)
  • Pirates: The Adventure Continues
  • Pirates: The Return
Would You Play A POTCO ReMake: Most likely!
Most Important To Keep The Same: Guild System (With some improvements of course)
Most Important To Change: Graphics!

I've played POTBS, I liked it but it's way to hard to learn.

EDIT: Would one powerful server be better, or 10 small servers?

Hopefully you would need several powerful servers! It was nice to have different servers in case someone was hogging an area.

We planned on 5 powerful servers. We cannot stand lag, so we are going a little overboard.

Specs:
- Dual Intel Xeons E5-2697 24 Cores/48 Threads
- 512GB Of Memory
- Every File On A Network Of 88TB
- Extreme Fast Cisco Networking Switches And Routers

Please keep PvP same. The mechanics are surprising good. Just take out Parry, as it is a luck factor in a skill-oriented zone. The looting system should be changed just a little... It's a "luck" system. I've searched for a DB Sack Vest for three years, and never found it. Yet, some new kid can go looting once, and get it. That isn't fair. I think it should be handled that the more you loot, the better chance you get for "rare" items.

A weekly reset for the servers would be nice aswell. Old Island design would be preferred. Old Bodies, again, it would be preferred.

Also, I have a questing idea. Have "Legendary Quests", meaning these quests would be insanely hard. Say like, kill 10,000 undead lvl 45+. I know that seems to much. If you think about it, if you spend about 12 hours looting a day, you kill about 3,500 enemies at South Idol. It won't be that long. The reward could be a "legendary weapon".

It would also be nice to "forge" our own weapons. I think that could cater to the masses. If someones like to be more of a "tank", then would have skills on the sword that would help them block. If someone likes to pvp, they could makes the sword very powerful, but sacrificing defensive skills.

What we are aiming for right now is a basic game, and build from suggestion once it is up. So there will be tons of updates in the first days of it. We want the game to be played as the players want it, so we will build basically from ground up with the players help.

Guys, To keep the cheating to a minimum the important player information is stored server side, not client. Meaning even if they're game is modified they cannot change it, it will only appear to change client side.

I was thinking for the new potco:
1. Higher level cap
2. More loot (weapons, clothes, etc)
3. More ships
4. More islands

Although, this is basically what I wanted to see in potco, if the remake is made this defiantly needs to be in it :)

We will try our very best to come up with new ideas form this post.

I can't think of much but I'd say have bigger ships higher than a war brig and max gold capped at 750,000 doublons

Name of game: Pirates of the high seas (poths for short)
