Mediacom troubles

Ok, I have Mediacom internet, and the signal goes in and out very frequently after about 5 PM every night for the past couple weeks. I asked a friend about it, and he said to change services because it's a shared bandwidth company.

So my question is... should I call mediacom and tell them about the problems, or should I switch services (and if so, what is a good replacement ISP?)
 
It's definitely something worth calling about; there's no point in switching ISPs if they can solve the problem for you.

I'm guessing your friend is referring to the fact that around 5 PM in your neighborhood, internet use spikes and causes the rest of the neighborhood to slow down. This is pretty much the case for all forms of internet (barring true DSL), so if you are planning on switching, that could be something to consider.
