I have been thinking a lot about how to make ship vs ship combat cooler and have come up with some cool ideas that can get very elaborate that being said i will list them:
Idea 1 Make it where certain flagships are boardable WITH a new feature. Right before boarding the captain will get an option like before they can sink, board, or now raid. The raid feature makes it where you board the ship, but there will be MUCH higher level enemies. If you win the battle against the enemies you get a boost and better loot
Idea 2 When raiding have the options to do one of two things: 1: Scuttle (sink) your own ship and take the one you just boarded, 2; Sink the boarded ship and make off in your own with another bonus of loot. Many of you would say this would be too unfair BUT there is a solution, i have come up with several reasons this will work and address the problems now.
1. Who gets the boarded ship if it is taken over? The captain will get the ship
2. What does the crew get? The crew gets supplies from the ship (ie a share of the gold)
3. How would we balance this out with the fact that now you have a large ship? Ok, here is a complicated part which may or may not be taken seriously by developers. When raiding a ship they will shoot up a distress flare which will spawn in a man of war that can NOT be raided this one will be set on destroying you at all costs and will have a high rating. It can be destroyed after great difficulty and teamwork with the crew.
Idea number 3: Make boarding other player ships an option IF they are privateering. Boarding the other player's ship would not allow the raid option but only the boarding option. Boarding will offer a superior bonus to the raiders if successful and a pay boost to the defenders if they're successful in defeating the boarders.
This would be added in the privateering section if TLOPO decides to follow in the footsteps of TPOCO in the sense of ship pvp only being available in privateering.
