Net Neutrality repealed

My brothers and sisters I understand this is most likely against terms and conditions of the forums as this is a political issue, but one that very much affects us in this community.

Our ability to freely access and create on the internet will be gone in a matter of weeks.

This is no different than a corrupt government controlling the internet, except that a government is censoring content but these corporations are going to censor content and make money from doing it.

Think of it like this, your water provider lets you use your 1 of 3 toilets and 1 of 4 sinks and 1 of three showers free - but for every other shower, hose, sink, shower, or whatever other spout you have, you have to pay $5.99 per month to use.

There may be no more content creators, no more start-up business, you may not even be able to IM your friends on social media sites, and it will takes months at minimum to change that.

Another thing that came to my mind, is what about schools. Schools use internet, so will they have to fork out the cross country or football or whatever other extra-curricular to keep that internet service running.

The bottom line is this - the United States of America relies on the internet, it is how we communicate now. To limit our freedom of speech and communication is unconstitutional and heinous. It is something we should not let go and should not give up on

Thank you my brothers and my sisters.

I doubt much will change honestly. I think the matter is overhyped.. sure it got repealed but exactly as you stated - billions and billions on this earth use the internet. To actually put such measures in effect would cause a major uproar, plus I think there would be some ah, distressing events that will actually prevent this from happening in the end.

You simply cannot do it (yes Pai did do it but there is still the Congress) the mere idea of it is surrealistic at best. Stuff will happen....stuff....stuff....

I don't think you understand. The vote was held at 10:30a.m. this morning of today, it's already gone sister. It was 3-2 vote in favor of repealing it. Petitions can't help us now only YOU can.
Pretty much everyone knew the FCC was going to repeal it. The cards were stacked against it. With no public consultation, and 3 out of the 5 commissioners openly against it. The fight has always and is STILL for Congress to take action against this. So continue to call Congress and spread the word. The fight isn't over yet.

Its not overhyped. Before 2015, before net neutrality, was there were MANY cases of ISPs throttling and blocking competing services, boosting speeds of their own services, and generally everything anyone is concerned about now was and is very real. Its not something that will happen overnight. And before 2015 they were quite sneaky about how they did it. Net Neutrality was put into place to safeguard against this and prevent it from getting worse. And when the internet is SO essential to everyone and many places in the United States only have the option of one ISP... there's no decision to be made and consumers will be FORCED to buy from ISPs with potentially bad practices.

Actually, NN has been around since the Internet's inception; the main 2015 change was a reclassification to Title II.

What the FCC voted in favor of this time around, however, is much more than a reclassification. :furious:
