New Queue Login System

Just stay calm. The new system has only been released for a few hours; there are gonna be some bugs that have to be worked out. The queue system should be better than play slots in the long run because it will allow more people to play more often.

One of the core problems right now is that the game doesn't seem to tell you how much time is left in the current session until you log in, which can be as problematic as getting a one minute warning that the game is closing when your on a material run, or have a pot of 10k in poker.

I have a job, a steam account, and a PS4. I like the play time slot system because i knew exactly when i can start playing.
But now with this queue system i feel like i'm wasting time when i could be doing something else. So now i just end up paying my other games instead of waiting when originally i got off my other games when my time slot came up.

This new system seems to have put us key holders into it in some way. We keep getting messages that we cannot connect to the servers. It took me well over an hour to get on even with a key and sailing had lag as others have stated. Supposedly key holders were not going to be affected by this. Is the problem that the server can't handle all these people? If it can't wouldn't it be better to go back to picking time slots to control it.

I don't mean to pick on you in particular, but it's the first day... everyone should give it some time.

It really shouldn't come as a surprise at this point, but to make it crystal clear: whenever a large update or change is deployed, the following couple of days are almost always going to be rough. Some issues simply don't rear their heads until something is put to the test on a massive scale. If you remember falling through islands when beta had first reopened, that's something that never happened during testing.

Key holders aren't being put into the queue, but they were having trouble connecting because of issues with the account server. These issues will be identified and overcome with time, like any other. As far as server capacity, problems aren't going to be addressed until they are first discovered. Discovering them means putting the servers to the test and collecting data. The queue system is part of that process.

Agreed, Davy. It's frustrating, but it's part of the testing process (which is still ongoing as we're in BETA, guys).

Let's all just try to be patient for a few days while the devs continue to work their magic and make things run smoother, savvy?

They had their play time and when it came time when they could actually hold as many people as they want, they let everyone come in whenever and no one had to wait.
I played TTR a few days after they released their play time system (which was the exact same system TLOPO is using now). I remember that I ended up crashing at least five times in ten minutes. TLOPO is much more stable compared to what TTR was back then, so I don't see exactly how "stability" is an issue here. I also had to wait quite a few hours before playing using the queue system on TTR. So if you get to play within an hour using the EXACT same system on TLOPO, I'd say that's pretty impressive.

I may just have a suddenly bad Internet connection, but I doubt it. It worked just fine until the Queue update. I have logged in 3 times just now:
  1. No problems getting logged in. Took out my War Sloop - for about 20 seconds. Internet disconnect
  2. Can't connect to account server on first try. Second try, I got in, went to a public ship. I was never able to do anything there. Internet disconnect.
  3. No problems getting logged in. Another public ship, and I managed to crew up and shoot a cannon for about 20 seconds. Internet disconnect.
I will try again later - and probably just edit this post. Good luck everyone.

At least you could get in it when YOU scheduled to.

Secondly, I didn't specify anything about how bad or well the game runs?????
If anything, I said the queue system is doing exactly as it should with no bugs (before I knew there's actually a good handful rofl)

Thirdly, "within an hour"
.......................
There's been quite a lot of people complaining about waiting HOURS and HOURS to not only to get a spot, but crash and get sent back to the start of the queue!!!
If that's impressive to you? I'll be darned.

Really disappointing because not even I thought that it was gonna be that long, hell even one the "mods" said:
"Players wont be waiting multiple hours on a queue"
And I believed her with quite a lot of confidence.

Finally, I need to get rid of this notion of "well everyone's trying to get in at once so it'll eventually calm down and everyone will be able to get in really fast!!!! ROFL!!!!!!"
To this I say, you're right!! Last night, at 12:30 AM CST, I was able to get waiting no more than ONE second. Dream come true.

But how about today? Around the same time from yesterday when I started to rant .... "Queue POS #76" And it's been around 20 minutes.
Did it get better? Yes. It did.
Will I have to wait hours and hours like everyone did yesterday? No I doubt that.
Will I have to wait more than an hour to get in? Yes, I am confident in that.

The deceiving thought that it will "calm down" is actually true!.... When everyone is sleeping.
There's gonna be days like yesterday where there'll be hundreds of people trying to get on at once. And like I said above, the only way it'll get better if they add more slots. Before that, you gotta wait till everyone goes nighty night.

I hate having to rant more even when I say I wouldn't but, come on. Literally the users of TLOPO are in the right here. Everyone is complaining ridiculously. Will it get better when over time when they add more slots? Of course. But please don't come to me and say that TTR is in a much worse state at the same rate of TLOPO is, because like you said, you might have crashed all the time. But at least you were getting in. And many people are able to get in, only to crash or disconnect whatever it might be, and having to wait again. It's unfair.

The only thing there is to do is be positive about it. And I have! If you go back the pages I've been optimistic about this. It will get better definitively! Just have to be patience. Simple as that :)

We monitor the queue pretty closely and haven't seen anything that would indicate people are waiting for more than an hour. And you get a 3-hour session when it's your turn, so crashing in the game doesn't send you to the back of the queue. I believe people saying otherwise were just making uninformed knee-jerk reactions.

Current data shows 229 sessions expiring within the next hour and only 157 people in the queue, ergo it should definitely take less than an hour.

There's a vocal minority but if you take an honest look around, many are praising the new system as well. Give it a chance first.

People waited upwards of 24 hours in the TTR queue (though I believe TTR had a much higher demand at the time). And to reiterate, crashing or disconnecting doesn't mean you have to wait again. Not really sure where people are getting that idea, but please don't contribute to the spread of misinformation.

Thank you for the much needed clear up. I'm glad you didn't blame me of accepting this misleading information. Like I said, I'll be patient.

Fine then, I guess I'm just ignorant because I have a key...
Either way, it's better to have this system then to have a Closed Beta.

if it ain't broke...don't fix it.
Except they're not trying to "fix it" they are allowing more people to play the game at once. So far, the longest I have experienced is 15 minutes and the longest I have heard of is 30. And convenience for some people is not as important as having as many online as possible. (More people means more testing means quicker full release).

Just wanted to pop-in and say that I do have a beta key and am also getting the "900: Cant connect to servers," error. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm knee deep in a game of Stellaris I'd be a little annoyed. Hopefully the logging in issue can be resolved quickly.

Did you read any of the previous replies on this thread...?

How does this system affect beta key users?

It shouldn't affect Beta Key holders at all, they don't need to wait in the queue. I think pretty much everyone had trouble logging immediately after it was implemented, including key holders. But by last night, at least for me and my fella (both Beta Key holders) we had no problem getting straight on so either it sorted itself out or the Devs worked their magic again :)

" While I agree with you that the system is probably far from perfect, I did expect more as mentioned in this thread such as an ETA or something similar. I've been sitting around position #200 for almost an hour now and I'm going to estimate I won't get my 3 hour time slot for another hour roughly, at which point I will only have about an hour more to actually play the game. So this being said I will have spent 2/3 hours waiting to even log in where as with the playtime system I can set a time for after I get home from work play and move on."

"I understand that the queue is new and there will be imperfections, but I have been waiting in the queue for an hour now and I'm only #78. I think having the queue is a good idea, but not for people with busy lives. Most people wont be able to wait 1-2 hours so they could play. I think there should be queues and playtimes because when I come back home from work I would just want to sit down and play at a time that is convenient, I would rather not have to wait an hour until I could get into the game."

"Well...30 minutes later and i have moved from position 119 to position 94 (holding steady at this spot for more than 10 minutes):cry:. Sadly my time is limited today so I don't think I will be able to get in the game today. A few things I will note to myself moving forward:"

"I have not been able to even go into the game with this new crap system. I tried and waited for an hour an a half and then they go on an update. Then i try again and i finally get to number 2 and it says the sever is currently loading. Its absolute crap when the playtime system worked perfectly fine. If it aint broke dont fix it"

That's just here in this thread alone. If you'd like, I can find many more complaints :)

Actually, with all the complaints, hackers, exploiters, trolls,....it would be easier for devs to just go back to a closed beta, using invite only system. But, hey, they enjoy a challenge which they take up freely(and I do mean freely!) And they must be in love with the game as much as most of us are. Have I said Thank You to all parts of the TLOPO team lately...Thank You! (and I love a good ban stick...but it lacks something... when are ya gonna invent the good ole fashioned and piratey "plank" :D

Sorry for complaining. I usually don't complain like this but it was such a shock to not be able to play as a key holder and for that to happen at the same time this system was implemented it just made me wonder if somehow something got messed up where the key holders got thrown in with the mix. I will say yesterday and today I have not had much trouble getting in the game. Only once in a while it will say it cannot connect but when I press to try again it puts me in the game. Hopefully they will be able to add more slots as time goes on for those without keys. People in the guild I am in have had to wait anywhere from an hour or longer to get into the game many times.
