I believe that is the database updating your gold amount. It awards it to you as if you just accepted it from loot, triggering the sound effect.

...or that's my best guess, at least. I'm no dev.

Never even noticed it but my 3 kids told me I hear that too, as do they, so at least I'm not hearing things...
