Ahoy, fellow pirates!

I have seen thousands of PotCO remakes out there, and I must say that they are looking good so far. So I figured, why not. I'm going to start my own version of PotCO. So far all I have is graphics, and I am going to be gone very soon. So before I am to leave I want to set up a team. Get any of the remaining developers in on this adventure, and hopefully have a team before I have vanished for 4 months. So for starters the name of the gaming company is Hyland Gaming. We are a group of individuals set out to recreate potco and only potco. The name of the game if you have not noticed the logo above is Pirates of the Great Abyss. We are a potco remake also set out to add new additions to the game in the very future such as islands, new enemies, adding new weapons, and even putting in new ships. Yes all of the original movie characters and names of various islands will be changed due to legal actions, and the game will be 100% free to play. We will not accept donations of any kind, and do not have any desire to make profit whatsoever. All I care about is playing the game again, and I know a lot of you feel the same way. So lets get our game back and lets play till we are completely happy with where we left our legends.

A forums will be available in November, and shortly After so will a website.

We have a Youtube Channel: to check out any progress, or news visit this url:

Do I think it was wise to wait so long before I brought up this project, not really. But I just wanted to see who all would be Interested in playing on my version of Pirates Online. If anyone here has any experience with Python, Panda 3D, Photoshop, or even with Astron Server, and are Interested in this project please let me know in a PM. Thank you so much for your time, and I am looking forward to meeting you very soon.

Stay Savvy,

I appreciate that you acknowledge the dozens of projects that have been started in the past, but would it not be more beneficial to join an already-existing team of developers? This is the very essence of the disparity that exists with all of these projects - everybody wants to lead; nobody wants to help.

Think of all of the potential a SINGULAR project could house if everybody just pooled their resources and knowledge together rather than dispersing it over dozens of separate, independent projects. Development would most likely skyrocket and we might actually see some massive results (not to say that other projects have not already).

The POTCO community has always been a diverse base of people with a wide assortment of technical skills. It does not make sense to segregate ourselves into multiple entities when we ARE indeed working towards the SAME EXACT goal. It's just not logical.

I don't mean any disrespect towards you or your ambitions or to rain on your parade, but the sheer volume of "new" projects being started is ridiculous.

It's actually better to help than lead. As John said, many like to lead. Leading requires much more responsibility and also puts a ton of issues directly on your shoulders. It's nicer being just a helper because then there are many others around who can replace you temporarily, etc. No need to be harped all the time.

The problem with that is, most projects that have been around relating to PotCO are either going about a "revival" in a different way (such as Black Flag Online compared to The Legend of: Pirates Online) or are not near the skill level needed to make any progress on a successful remake.

As project leader of TLoPO, i've made attempts for many other projects to join us:
  • Pirates Online Uprising: consisted of one developer, did not meet our skill level requirements.
  • Pirates House: consisted of one developer, did not meet our skill level requirements.
  • Caribbean Pirates Online: consisted of one developer which is apart of our team.
  • Pirates Online Emulator: have made many attempts to contact and failed to receive a response to this date.
  • Pirates Reborn: consisted of four developers, none which met our skill level requirements.
  • Pirates Online Rewritten: merged into our project.
And then of course there are the projects which could not benefit to us as far as developing the actual game goes:
  • Black Flag Online: developing their game in Unity, requiring skills in different coding languages.
  • Pirates of the Golden Sea: developing their game in Unity, requiring skills in different coding languages.
  • Pirates Online Infinite: consisted of one java developer, while our game is developed mostly in python.
  • Pirates Redemption: developing their game in Unity, requiring skills towards different coding languages.
I'd just like to make this clear as I often see the suggestion that all projects should join together.

I am going on a life event here in 20 days. I wanted my idea to be out there before I had to leave.

Well, you may be correct. It is a little foolish to continue on with the dozens of different projects, and yes the merging of every single game put together isn't a bad thought. But what is ridiculous is that the goal you are looking for can be wiped away just as easy. See it the way I see it. Disney ran the game for a long time. The game got old to them, new technology had risen up and they seen PotCO as a Out-of-Date game. They seen it as, they were losing money, and to Disney money was key. Too many played for free, and nobody was getting paid anymore. They stopped the productions of the membership cards because slowly they was trying to shut us down, months later they realised that people still loved the game but nobody was paying it forward. Finally Disney figured that the game wasn't up to date so they took our game from us.
That was 6 years of my life's work stolen from me.

You may not see the need for multiple projects but I see the need for multiple projects. Once these other teams give up like disney did, where will you all go. You will all be stranded on a island once again ( smooth right? ;) ). I'm not saying that these other projects revolve around money, but what's going to stop them from getting bored with the game. I'm not doing it for any of you, I'm doing it for the game. The game was important to a lot of people. I don't want potco to be a thing of the past, I want to be able to live the legend as long as I can. Thank you for telling me what I already knew you would say. I'm just saying that, yes, it is dumb to create yet another project I see that; but nobody will think it's dumb the day the other projects get bored with it. It's better this way.

True you are correct, but I also figured now was the best time because, with all these other projects in their prime, I could be that under the seat project who isn't noticed but acknowledged and known is there. People won't worry so much about my project because they are more worried about the other ones. I'm coming up behind you guy's. I'm not a competitor, I'm not trying to compete with you guys. I have the same goal in mind, we can merge if you'd like, but I'm not backing down from my goal. I'm not trying to lead, I'm trying to get my game back. I want our game back. Trust me, we will all relive the legend. It's just a matter of time.

Wilee You see a lot of problems with everything, doesn't surprise me. You have a good Head on your shoulder's though, and I respect the hell out of you for that. You are a perfectionist. Everything has to be spot on. See we all have our code, and yours is difficult to work with. You make a true leader and that is a good quality, your biggest flaw is wanting things to be absolute perfect, but don't get me wrong your tactics help out a lot! Like dang; you pushed me hard on the pictures I was making and now look where I'm at. My logo looks almost as perfect as the originals. That isn't something I could do before. I thank you so much for that. If you'd like I can redo that logo I made for you that is on your forums, I seen you used that one that I forgot to go back through and edit the edges. I can redo it if you'd like. Doesn't bother me.

And I thank you tremendously for the criticism in my work. It made me want to do better, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Good luck with your project you guys are doing really good. Can't wait to see what happens with the rest of your project.

Thanks! You can re-do the logo if you would like, I would appreciate it :)

In no way is this a troll thread.
Aye. Everyone has the right here to post those things which do happen to interest them as long as forums rules are being followed.

With that said, let's get back on-topic with what this thread proposes.

If it's OK for myself to ask @MysticalFish (as acknowledged by you long-ago on POTHS forums), will your "cousin" - James Cadar - be assisting you with this particular project? I am just curious, that's all. Thank Ye.:)

I have no more contact with my cousin. So the answer is no, I don't know what he has to do with this project but thank you for the good question.

Thanks for answering the question:) and, you're welcome.

Since you did contribute previously to the another remake team (before another remake merged with TLOPO), will the source-code you expect to use for this emulator of yours be yours (and yours alone) other than belonging to Disney?

Correct, I am using mine. I plan to write most of it myself.
