(POSSIBLE SPOILERS) Fact Sheet for POTC: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)

MODERATE SPOILERS FOR POTC 5
IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SPOIL YOURSELF WITH SOME OF THE TWISTS
REVEALED EARLY IN THE MOVIE, STAY AWAY!
Hey guys! So if you're like me (a POTC fanatic), you've been stalking the development of Dead Men Tell No Tales since the sequel was announced waaaaaaaay back in 2011. This thread is gonna be a compilation of official announcements, set photo leaks, rumors from credible news outlets, and information the actors have let slip that they shouldn't have. This should have everything you need to be ready for the film's release on May 26, 2017. I'm going to try to update this thread with news as it is released.

This is going to be your final warning. There is a twist revealed early on in the film. If you don't want that spoiled, stay away. Everything below this image will be spoiler territory.

Okay, so I'm going to start with some basics:

Some Notes:

Official synopsis:

Captain Jack Sparrow is pursued by an old rival, Captain Salazar, who along with his crew of ghost pirates has escaped from the Devil's Triangle, and is determined to kill every pirate at sea. Jack seeks the Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that grants its possessor total control over the seas, in order to defeat Salazar.

Unofficial details:

The film picks up approximately 15 years after On Stranger Tides, and follows the antics of Jack, Henry, Carina, and Barbossa. Each is in pursuit of the Trident of Poseidon for their own reasons.

Jack needs it to stop Salazar (as mentioned above). Barbossa needs it for an unconfirmed reason, but it might be the same as Jack. Carina is looking for it to prove her validity as a scientist. She hopes it will get her admitted into a university.

Now, Henry's reason for wanting the Trident is special, a central focus of the film. It is basically what all my spoiler tags were for. The twist is that Henry is not a new character. We've seen him at the end of At World's End. Henry is the son of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann. He wants to use the Trident of Poseidon to control the sea, and free his father from the curse of The Flying Dutchman.

Some rumors have said that Henry begins the film disguised as a Navy soldier, and meets up with Jack during a chase seen at the beginning of the film. After the pair escape the Navy, he reveals his parentage to Jack and the audience.

Cast & Crew:

Main Characters:

Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow
  • Everyone's favorite captain of the Black Pearl. He's on the hunt for the Trident to save his skin from Salazaar.
Javier Bardem as Captain Salazar
  • Captain of a ghost crew trapped in the Devil's Triangle. After escaping, he vows vengeance on both Jack and all pirates.
Geoffrey Rush as Captain Hector Barbossa
  • The one legged friend/foe of Jack Sparrow. While he should be the captain of the Queen Anne's Revenge, set photos have shown Barbossa in a Navy uniform similar to the one he donned in On Stranger Tides...
Brenton Thwaites as "Henry" Turner
  • The son of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann. After the passing of his mother, Henry seeks to break his father's curse using the Trident of Poseidon. He begins the film undercover as a member of the Navy, seeking info about the Trident.
Kaya Scodelario as Carina Smyth
  • An astronomer and academic, Carina is fighting for the right to study at a university. She wishes to use the Trident of Poseidon to prove many of her scientific theories right, and to gain admission into a university. She is especially useful to Jack due to her extensive diary detailing clues toward the location of the Trident.
Supporting Characters:

Orlando Bloom as Will Turner
  • A former pirate, Will Turner gave his life in service of The Flying Dutchman, harboring souls to the other side. His only freedom would be to visit his wife and son every ten years. After his wife Elizabeth died, Will was unable to return to land, and has slowly been corrupted into a form similar to the infamous captain he has succeeded.
Golshifteh Farahani as Haifaa Meni
  • A mysterious and enigmatic woman. Little is known about this character other than the fact that she is somewhat similar to Tia Dalma.
Kevin McNally as Joshamee Gibbs
  • Jack Sparrow's faithful and trusted First Mate.
Stephen Graham as Scrum
  • Former crew member of The Queen Anne's Revenge.
Martin Klebba as Marty
  • Former crew member of The Black Pearl, left the crew after Blackbeard captured the Black Pearl in a bottle.
David Wenham as Scarfield
  • No known info.
Cameos:

Giles New and Angus Barnett as Murtogg and Mullroy
  • Former Navy men, current pirates. Were last seen when Blackbeard captured the Black Pearl in a bottle.
Paul McCartney as Unknown
  • Cameo in similar fashion to Keith Richards as Teague.
Penélope Cruz as Angelica (POSSIBLY)
  • Cruz was on set for 1 week back during filming. There were rumors she was filming scenes, but it is important to note that she is married to Javier Bardem, and recently had a baby at the time. She may have just been spending time with family on location and saying hello to former co-workers.
Ships in Film:

  • New! The Silent Mary (Salazar's Ship)
  • New! British Barbossa Ship (Name Unknown)
  • New! Other British Ship (Name Unknown)
  • New! The Dying Gull
  • The Black Pearl
  • The Queen Anne's Revenge (briefly)
  • The Flying Dutchman (briefly)

I've been closely monitoring the pirates.Disney.com site for quite a while now but thus far, no changes (not even one).

Anyway, thanks ;) for the above and it'll be interesting to see how they'll advertise/market the promotion of the film itself whenever they'll get around to doing so; shrugs.

:dunno:

Director Joachim Rønning has posted a clip of a recording session with composer Geoff Zanelli, who is replacing Hans Zimmer for this outing in the franchise. You can see the very first frame of the film in the video. It is of the Navy ship that is featured in the film

Here are some shots of the ship on set:

wow this is awesome!!

Elizabeth died?! I didn't care for the 4th movie cause Will and Elizabeth weren't in it. Even though Jack is the main person I always loved the 3 of them together. So apart from that ^ the plot sounds cool and I'm excited to see
