Amongst Caribbean pirates even today, it remains unclear whether or not the use of Disney's in-game (POTCO) "characters" would violate the established order of things prompting Disney to possibly become overly involved again with our community's interest/aftermath of POTCO's closure.

What say you?

Arrr such characters :piratemickey:esteemed by Disney still of the upmost importance in light of the temporary insignificance of the genre of piracy (i.e., the 'POTC' brand) for the time being on account of the popularity of both the Star Wars and Marvel intellectual property brands?

Arrr they important still (ye think) to Disney or arrr they likely not, anymore?

I say we just create our own characters. We all play for the gameplay, not the NPCs :)
And that's kinda the point I want to make (because although it would be 'cool' to have something exactly as POTCO was the fact that simply keeping said NPC characters unchanged would not be worth the apparent risk, in my opinion).

With that said, there have actually been successful attempts to where people have challenged Disney's stance towards use of it's (intellectual property) characters. *Most notable, is the below information I came across which surprisingly did overturn a prior (Disney) anti-piracy decision:

Nevertheless and in light of such a decision, as ex-POTCO players we need to realize that despite our own feelings about use of in-game characters within a POTCO remake Disney will soon be exacting one last "push" to heavily market and promote the POTC brand world-wide.

So shall the reward be worth the risk in so far as us doing something "avoidable" which, if decided upon, could overly gain Disney's attention in light of such a plan to heavily promote the POTC brand by them within the future? I personally don't feel that, in the end, it is worth the potential headache.

I agree. Plus we can get rid of all those crazy potion lady names and make them names we can pronounce.

We could always keep the characters' personalities, characteristics, and etc. but just change the names. I wouldn't want to lose the relatable characters from the franchise!

I don't know much about copyright or anything like that, but if implementing the characters and things that Disney uses now gives them the chance to shut down any remake then in my honest opinion I don't think they should be used. I don't think the risk is worth taking due to the fact that it might hurt the community again.
Honestly I really didn't care for the NPC's, I mostly played the game for the community and the looting.
