It's all a question of "economics," really. What I mean is...SURE you are going to get bored!!! Let me explain.

During my time in college, a professor explained that within the study of economics, the measure of utility exists as a measure of relative satisfaction. In other words, the more you increase the intake of something, the less you begin to desire more.

Let me ask you this - "HOW MANY OREO COOKIES can you eat within an hour and not become overly sick from consuming them?
*Sure, they taste good_are fun to break apart_& extremely satisfying to drown into a glass of cold milk.

However, eventually too much Oreo Cookie (or POTCO 'game' experience) begins to lose it's appeal over time due to the measure/concept of economic utility, lol.

I don't think POTCO's level of fun has depreciated. But then again, I don't get bored/tired too easily (I do eat practically the same food at the same time just about everyday...and have for the better part of a year), if that's gives you an idea). I've been playing POTCO since basically the beginning. So adding the bosses, extra random weapons, extra random clothes, the mini-games, enemies, islands, heck, even the seperate mini-game where you're the kraken...that list is enough pirate material to keep me from getting bored. Worse case...I go play Texas Hold'em for an hour or so. I will say, if there was something that got boring, it was when the very first guild I joined collapsed, which I was in for most of a year, and until a week ago, didn't have the support of a quality guild. That was sorta boring. You only can do the whole "Pirate rogue on his own" thing for so long. Doing quests solo made it extra challenging, and maybe a bit more rewarding?...especially ones where you have to face one of the tougher bosses. I've all but mastered taking out ships up to perhaps dreadnaught level (that one not a fun time) solo. Being in my new guild has re-invigorated my POTCO enthusiasm, I love guild chatter, so as I told my GM, seeing that blue text, which I haven't seen for so long, is refreshing!

I just say good! that you can't compare people with economic!! Cuz you dont get bored by me, and dont you dare twist me!!

This Amazon is a hard-core pirate until the heart stops beating, but after three plus years there sadly is a 'been there, done that' attitude that tries to creep in. I'm sure the exhausts the designers that the old salts just devour anything new so quickly and beg for more. I try to imagine how a brand new greenhorn off the boat in Port Royal must feel though - there is a lot to do if you haven't done anything.

What keeps me coming back isn't the promise of the Kraken or new sword, though. It's present company. If other folks were all to stop sailing, plundering and carousing... then and only then would I lay down my cutlass and walk away. But, narry more than a year and half ago - that possibility was very real when the game went through a long development draught.

Great observation Shamus! This can also be compared to psychology in such a way...

Our ability to get bored with POTCO can also be blamed on a psychological theory called Adaptation. Whereas adaptation is an adjustment in sensory capacity after prolonged exposure to unchanging stimuli. In other words, the more you play the less stimulated (entertained) you are. In a sense, our brain mentally turns down the volume of the game over time causing it to become monotinous. This can be combated with POTCO's ability to create new stimuli (new stuff in the game), which psychology refers to as a "just noticable difference," same as Weber's Law. Example: Ever noticed how excited we all get when something new shows up in the game? ergo - Just noticable difference or Weber's Law. Then when we have all played through it/mastered and so on... Bang! Back to being bored with the game. ergo - Adaptation.

to shorten ur statement after a long time of playing u have done everything and know everything and at that point it is no longer ammusing because there is nothing new

I'm not even maxed (lv 47) and the game has gotten boring! Looting and leveling is the only things I can do and it's extremely boring.

Who are you? The Architect in the Matrix? Whereas...stimuli...adaption...ergo...lol I feel like I should be in a room full of monitors and two doors lol:p

There are creative ways to have fun with mates or your guild. Any folks play doll tag? Go to Kingshead and play on the lawn. The IT takes out their voodoo doll.. The others just try and avoid be attuned. If you get attuned, you become it.

YES! Similar to that ... We did it last night with Spania to celebrate our guild's 2-nd anniversary, Isaiah's idea. It was fun to look for ppl. We didn't really 'avoid' to be attuned, though, and we certainly didn't give up our doll to the IT. I was so bored 'waiting' to be found, that I put away my doll to take a screenshot of myself (... :p), and that was when Isaiah tagged me. :(
Go ahead and laugh ... I felt dumb myself ... caught it on video too ...

Point being - you can make new games in the confines of the old. We've done a couple of events like that. One SvS idea was Escort. Divide into two crews. One crew launches a regular gallon and any warship of their choice. The other launches two regular sloops or war if wanna get challenging. The goal is for the two Hunters to destroy the Galleon while the Defender warship protects it. The Galleon obviously must try and survive. You can set a course or lap the Galleon must complete.

after mastering everything its really boring.. and im one of those people who just cant go and make another pirate, i remember all the quests too well o.e the chatting is fun sometimes though :D
