Protecting guilds from inactive GM's

One of the improvements that POTCO made in the last year or so was the ability to transfer GM status from one person to another. That was a much needed improvement that allowed guilds to stay together and continue to thrive should a GM decide he/she no longer wanted to lead the guild.

I would like to suggest that we also have a Co-GM position or similar. The function would be similar to GM status, except that the Co-GM would not have the ability to remove the GM. Additionally, if the GM does not log in for a pre-determined about of time ( I would suggest 2 months) then the C0-GM is auto-promoted to the status of GM.

Guilds were one of the strengths of POTCO and having an absentee GM was a death knell for many. Having these two features would help keep guilds together and strong.

Agreed, there were some pretty useless GM's out there in POTCO, and who's to say it won't happen in TLOPO? I agree with this system, but to keep their power some GM's will not promote members to a vice-GM, so I think after about 3 months, the name 'GM' goes to the highest ranking member after the GM :)

That's a good point. I think 'Officer' and 'Veteran' were the only other offices higher than 'Member', but there should be something in place to account for these situations.

The usurpation idea is great! But what if more than one officer wants to usurp? Would it be so that the first one to the punch gets the guild?

Just spitballing here, but I figure that a lot of the hardcore guilds would take kindly to a PvP based usurption system (if it's possible to implement) whereby the winner would get the position of, lets call it "acting guild master", that would function as a temporary upgrade to all the perks and functions of Guild Master. I figure if/when the original GM comes back he could revoke that title and claim back leadership. But I don't know now, the more I thought about it the more apparent become the possible misuse and abuse of that system. It opens a door for tyrannical leadership gained by chance of GMs absence and time invested in the game based on PvP strength (which is unfair because some players prefer PvE and then those players would be excluded from the system for lack of PvP skill/knowledge/gear/younameit).

Maybe a simple vote system is best. Usurping the GM can happen if 5 officers agree on it, the GM has been out of the game for at least 30/60 days, and then those 5 officers get put to a collective guild vote.

I like the idea of usurping the leadership. Perhaps if there is more than one contending officer for the title of GM, there could be a sort of internal civil war, where the guild members have to choose sides, and eventually they'll battle on land/sea. Towards that end, perhaps there could be a minigame specifically for that purpose. Just my thoughts on this :3
