Public Ship Warning! [Avid Sailors Be Warned]

Was exploring and found this: http://piratesonline.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:J.R._Imp/Warning_on_Public_Ships

This is just terrible... What else will people do next?

This type of effort represents the "original sin" of all pirates historically but yeah...NOT COOL on a "game" where it takes forever to increase the bounty of yer own (or crew) ship's cargo! :(

As others have commented within the link (some including 'our own' forums members), be sure to keep HIGH LVL pirates onboard if...yer ship is open to the public!!!

Although it is messed up at the same time, this is the sort of thing we should already expect when playing a Pirate themed game. It seems these players have just taken pirating to a realistic level. Yeah it sucks that you can loose all your loot but at the same time instead of going out plundering for 4 hours maybe you can take 2 seconds to port. There's not much point in staying out until you get a full bag of skull chests and what not.

If you see the glitcher report them but at the same time just take a break every now and then and collect the loot. I've been on ships were some people will literally try to keep it all for themselves and they'll just play a waiting game until everyone leaves even though they helped the captain out for over an hour or two.

Also on a side note I think it is kinda cool that we can steal loot from other players ships and I hope Disney seriously considers making this into a real feature. Doing it by glitching is just low but if this was a real feature I would probably come back to the game full time lol.

Also can you fight back?

Aye, you made a "interesting" point - Will - about this type of behavior being expected from :arrrrr: pirates. *I do wish the game could be more realistic in a sense (as you described) to where pirates combat each other for not only control over the ship :daggermouth: ...but also the loot accumulated. *You made a good point though that glitching the game in this way is an all time "low"...
:iagree:
From what I have read on the link, you CAN fight back!

The problem with this logic is the fact the attackers are not stealing the loot, they are preventing other people from getting it. In order to gain a ship's cargo you must have been on board when the cargo was obtained - the only thing these players are doing is ruining the fun of others.

We cannot shame the pirates who were out innocently sailing for not porting early enough to prevent this from happening. Many of my guildmates prefer to stay out on the open waters until we fill up our cargo holds because it allows us to keep having hunters coming after us without having to redo the entire Scoundrel of the Seas ranking process.

Perhaps it would work if this were an actual feature in the game, but it would have to be optional for the captain - this, on the other hand, is the malicious attacking of a captain and his crew for no gain or purpose other than griefing others and watching them lose all of their hard work for the sake of fun. A pirate who sails with the public settings on is more often than not looking to include others in his voyages, and should not be scared or persuaded in to doing otherwise for the sake of these glitchers.

And yes, you can fight back - realize, however, the glitchers are known for constantly keeping one another healed, and thusly it would take serious manpower to overpower them.

I always encourage pirates who want to sail on public to grab a few of their friends before hand and create a "central crew" so that way the captain is not left alone in having to deal with an entire ship of unpredictable and often unruly pirates. Having a few guildmates or close friends to help run the ship while you focus on captaining can really make the difference between having a ship fall in to disorder or not.

Of course, the rise of this glitch brings that to an entirely different level. I would advise all pirates who want to sail on public ships from now on to make sure they have at least a few loyal and hopefully high-leveled friends on in their crew before they open the ship; this at least establishes a base crew that will be willing to fight to defend the ship in the event of an "attack."

A good strategy to follow in an event of one of these attacks is to try and distract/stun the attacker long enough so that the captain will have enough time to find out what is going on and hopefully make way for port. If the attacker does make it to the helm, make sure that the entire crew understands the ship needs to make it back to port as quickly as possible, encouraging others to grab the wheel and drive if the wheel is open. This will at least limit the attacker to one spot (the helm, to limit the movement of the ship) which should make him easy pickings for a group of pirates with their broadswords swinging away.

So, remember:

1. Sail in groups with at least a few battle-ready friends aboard your ship.
2. Keep the captain and the rest of the crew informed in the event of an attack.
3. Stun the attacker and distract him long enough to sail the ship to the nearest port. (Killing him works as well, though that may not guarantee that he will not come bacl.)
4. Work together to make sure the ship survives.
5. Remain calm, and remain loyal to your crew.

I don't understand you guys. This is a hack, not a glitch. I would know.

But, yes, remember everyone's tips here.

I'm honestly not surprised this is happening, what with the PvP land glitchers and spinning/infinite damage broadside hackers going around. As some stated above, sail with high level friends who, preferably, are good at PvP and have good weapons. This may sound stupid, but I would advise not to use Copperhead ships to plunder in busy servers until this is fixed. They are slower, so making it to port before everyone dies will be tougher. Like I said, it may sound stupid, but I'm one of the most avid sailors in the game, so I'd know. (Not saying I'm a better sailor than everyone; -I haven't SvS sailed in 3 months- I just -loot sailing- sail a whole ton more than 95%)
Have someone who heals ready if you're on a public ship in a busy server. Report the people when you see them, do not hesitate.
(Another thing, I'd suggest using a Stormchaser, Fortune Hunter, etc. ship. A lot faster, and the extra 1-3 knots could mean not reaching port or reaching it)

Well, here's a little story for you all...

The invasion on Port Royal had just finished up, and we were about to guild a new member. All of a sudden a few Ocean's Cult members pop out of no where and start "fanboying" me. I attempted to escape using Swift Foot, and they reported me for glitching - I obviously did no such thing.

After I managed to lose them, I ran back to where I first was to see if they had left. Wrong... They were still there, unfortunately. I figured it was time to leave, so I hightailed it out of there to Tortuga. I'm assuming they then crashed me to my desktop because pirates stopped working right then and there.

But here's where this comes into full swing with this thread - evidently these members take part in this ship materials sabotage issue going around. I've included a snippet of chat.

This is a hack, not a glitch... as there is no way to get from PvP to a ship without going to land first. On land there is a code that takes away the zombie affect, on a ship that code is not active because as i already said there is no way to get from PvP to a ship without going to land first and it would probably create unnecessary lag. These people that do this only need 2 things a program to turn them into a human in PvP, and a friend on a Non-SvS ship to teleport to. (You cannot attack people on a SvS ship)

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step"... This applies good here. Thats how most good and bad tbings start. In this case, start from the glitch and go up towards hacking. While its not the pvp glitch, it still playes a major role in this issue.

As being mentioned above this is thought to be a hack. It reminds me of the big Toontown epidemic of hacking which as to my knowledge has died out. It started with small actions, and got worse and worse and led up to the eventual resetting of the game many, many, times to clear out hacked 'bots' they were placing. It got to the extent of every game server registering as full and game play becoming very difficult to impossible. Moral of the story is, if this isn't stopped now its just going to get worse until they finally fix it.

Let's all keep the peace and not throw out any names. We do have a rule against it because we don't like reputations being ruined.
