There's a graphical bug in a few of the trees in this game, and it's been there for as long as I can remember.
The trees in this game are made up of tree trunks covered in clusters of flat leaf texture planes. The leaves are usually green, but every once in awhile you get a plane of leaves that are purple. As far as I can tell, this isn't related to the island shader glitch which caused color-changing rocks and hedges, even though the color effect is the same. It also does not appear to affect the lower-quality LODs.
There are at least five trees on the main Port Royal island that I know are affected by this, and in each case it's only one or two planes per tree. I have no idea why it would be intentional so I'll be posting this in the Bugs section. It's pretty, but it sticks out.
Looking over the Game Remembrance video, I can confirm this was in POTCO.
