Sounds like they were joking ('unholy' meaning it's a vessel sea-worthy without a lot of HOLES showing). *A play on words.

Hmm this gave me an idea... Imagine a new category of legendary sailing items called Unholy Relics.. when in use it gives your ship an awesome effect similar (but different) to skeleton ships thunderstorm and a boost to all your shipmates in a specific ammo type.
Certain ships would become notorious with such an epic aura.. Then you truly could have an "Unholy Ship"
