READ FIRST: Introduction to Community Test Server

The Crew

TLOPO Staff
Ahoy everyone,

We are very excited to announce that our Test Server is now ready to be opened! In case you haven’t heard, our Test Server will be an application-based Test Server (similar to POTCO’s) where our updates will be tested prior to going to our Production (PROD) server.

This new Test Server will function as an intermediary between our internal Quality Assurance server and the Production/Live Server. Community Testers have exclusive access to this new Test Server to see the latest changes before they officially make it onto the live server.

The very first update on our Test Server is a complete overhaul of every part of the game under the hood: the long-awaited Pypperoni update. We have spent countless hours studying the game’s code to identify areas that were affecting performance in the game, performance will be significantly improved as a result of this update.

We need to emphasize how much has changed in the game’s codebase; we have basically just finished rewriting the entire game here. We need players who have access to the Test Server to test every single aspect of the game to ensure it works. Testers will need to send crash logs and bug reports to us so we can fine tune everything before this update goes live for all.

We are now in the home stretch of our Beta phase, this Test Server is one of the critical elements to finally reaching that finish line. With that, we are needing help to test all of these changes and make sure that everything works as it is supposed to.

We now have almost a quarter of a million registered players, and it’s our personal goal to get to a million by the end of 2020. We are going to be aggressively marketing the game over the coming weeks. We will begin this process once our new content drops and we finally get the game completely out of Beta. But in order for us to get there, we need to have the game be as stable as humanly possible to make it so new players want to play.

We have spent thousands of hours focusing on what’s causing lag in the game, and have fixed hundreds of issues that have caused performance to be so terrible. The biggest news we have to share: we know exactly what is causing all of the lag in the game.

Now, we still haven’t found a solution for each and every one of these issues. But we know exactly what they are, and how significant of an impact they are having. Because all of these bugs each individually have their own unique and extremely complicated set of issues causing lag, it can be difficult to find a solution. Nonetheless, we have already made a stunning amount of progress and are continuing to make further progress.

Please use this private forum section as a central means of communicating feedback and bug reports to us. We are going to be trying to take a hands-on approach and work with as many of you as we can one on one. The more folks we have dedicated in here the better TLOPO will be for all of us as a result.

We look forward to seeing some of you on the Test Server!

Fair Winds,

The Crew @ TLOPO

Edit 12/24/2019 @ 9:31PM EST:

Ahoy all, quick update to this.

We had initially intended for this post to be exclusively for TEST members to access, but we later decided to just make this forums section public in the spirit of transparency.

We have modified the writing in this thread to reflect its new visibility.

This is a video showing a load time comparison of the current prod version vs the current developer copy of the game.

This developer copy incorporates all of the improvements we have made to the game over the past two years in this separate code branch.

It's quite shocking. Bear in mind that the FPS should be much higher, but I was running 5 TLOPO servers and 2 game clients - all while recording HD video and running other profiling metrics. My computer was quite warm during all of this.
