:flag: Ahoy me hearties! :ahoy:

Considering myself a POTCO gamer, I would like to take a moment to share with ye mates the "real" treasure found from spending time playing Pirates of the Caribbean Online (from the perspective of someone whom regularly used to play but does not play the game anymore due to my computer walking the plank).

QUESTION:xbones:: If ye had to choose between all the treasure (available on POTCO), which kind of treasure would ye choose? *Taking RUM out of the equation :sad1:, would ye choose the shiney and most sparkling gems and precious jewels? What about the gold? Strings of rare and beautiful pearls?

No doubt, such valuables found would promote yer standing and validate yer reputation within the Caribbean as a successful and most "notorious" pirate. :daggermouth: I have to admit, such treasure gained would be boss in real, lol!

However, I have recently come to the conclusion that it is PEOPLE whom remain the most valuable, the most precious treasure of all (for myself) gained as a result of playing POTCO. Specifically, I am referring to close friendships "found" while spending time online.

Mates...heed me simple words for a moment, if ye please.:) *If ye were to be honest, ask yourself the question as to why you keep returning back to POTCO with circumstances (being as they arrrr.) I mean, for a game which offers little change in content along with a significant lack of support, is it not people (meaning other gamers) which keeps yer sheath readily available on a day in, day out basis? The point I would like to make is it is the POTCO sense of COMMUNITY which makes a lasting impression on each of us, regardless of if we remain presently active on the game or not.

~ At this time, I would like to give a heartie "thanks" to a handful of close friends of mine whom are playing (or have played) POTCO along with me during my experience in the Caribbean. One friend in particular, has supported my first pirate (along with 'Shamus') through both good times and bad. This friend of mine understands a great deal about me both online and in real & I appreciate her lasting frienship, no matter of what develops of the fate of this POTCO game.

In conclusion, Pirates of the Caribbean Online (POTCO) has a sense of community which is lasting! I might be very "bias" for saying so but... this remains the truth! For myself, the treasure has been found. ;)

I agree. :drink: If it weren't for the friends I've made, Pirates wouldn't be what it is for me today. I spend more time meeting new people than anything else honestly, haha.

Completely agree with you, Shamus. I started playing the game because of my LOVE for Pirates of the Caribbean. While enjoying the game play as a new pirate, I created frienships. Some have lasted till this day through other means since they no longer play the game. However, I still have many many friends whom I have met in game and otherwise. These friends make up my PIRATE FAMILY. I log in every day (well almost everyday) to plunder and pillage with the friends in game. The enjoyment of the game play to me is a bonus now. Its the conversations and joking with my PIRATE FAMILY that means the most to me.

Yesterday, I had a quiet moment to myself to where I reflected upon all of the "people" I had been introduced to and had met on POTCO.

I dedicate this song to all of those whom were willing to keep me as their friend but in particular, one person whom pirate name began with a "N," had a "E," a few "L's," and ending in a "A." *To this person, I say "thanks" and I hope it is known how much I appreciate you. :)

How come you had to take the RUM out of this? :rumgone:

All jokes aside, you have basically stated my main reason for sticking to the game. Granted, I don't get on a whole lot anymore, as my life has become extremely complicated, but I am always returning, hoping to catch one of my fellow guild mates (which has become, unfortunately, extremely rare) or one of you running around someplace, or even just hanging out with a bunch of people. I am still trying to make my pirates as tough and wealthy as they can possibly be, but the main allure (if you can call it that) of Pirates of the Caribbean Online, at the moment, is of its community.

Now, where did I stash that jug of rum at......:rumgone: Nope, not there, ah there it is....:drink::drink:.

I fully agree Shamus.... My friends and guild are the most precious treasure to me in the game... I would loose it if i lost them...
The only reason I ever return from my breaks is for my guild so, Thank you Masters And Skulls Members
Aye Masters And Skulls is such a treasure because of all the past and current GMs and member who made it such a experience! Everyone in the Guild has to agree with this to a certain extent.

As the days on the calendar shrink and the end comes near I wonder how I will be feeling on that last day. I played this game in 2008 and there was a point in the game at which you had done all there was and you were mastered. There was no looting, special weapons, custom ships, or special clothes with which to fill your time. I also feel that while I met many dedicated players, we were all relatively new and had not really developed into a community. When I returned to the game after a couple years off and joined Emerald Regiment, the game became much more than what I remembered it to be. As others have reference, it became a "family" of players that I enjoyed playing with. An evening could be spent without having looted anything good and still I would log off having had lots of fun. I share players with my son and it was surprising to me that the friends we had would treat us equally nice and it became a safe and supportive place for him to play. I will echo the sentiment that the greatest asset of the game was this online community. I became so involved in the game and its Pirates brand that I considered myself part of that Disney family. I think that is one of the most troubling parts of the closure in that there were so many caring players that asked for so little back and were so willing to wait if need be that I feel Disney really turned its back on its us, it's family. I don't know that I will ever find a game like POTC with a sense of player community. You never forget your first love..

Absolutely well stated. By itself, the game is simple and would be mastered in a couple weekends if it were a standard console video game. As we look at people's reactions to the game closing, nobody is talking about missing the quests, invasions or even making potions. The biggest question seems to be:

"Where will all my friends go when the game closes? How can we stay in touch?"

Saying goodbye to friends is much harder than throwing away a video game.

Yep. Possibly the only two reasons I didn't delete the game off my computer is because of the hope that maybe someday Disney would get their act together and fix the game, and of course, most importantly, all of the great friends I made over the course of 2 years of playing the game. I'm glad a lot of those people are here on these forums, but sadly, some of those friends will be lost with the game. :sad1:

I agree with everything said here, what's a pirate without his crew anyway? :pirate ship:

I'm finding that these last days are filled with reflection as I look back through the pictures and videos, read and talk to my friends and remember all the great times and really think about what I'll miss most.

I'd fumbled my way to a similar conclusion to Shamus' and Griffin.....what pirates gave us was not only the fun of questing and plundering and looting, but also an open environment where we could role play to our hearts content with a set of tools which encouraged us to share our fun easily with others, to give them credit, I think Disney did that pretty well.....Despite the dismal filtering and chat restrictions which I abhor..... we could sail together, loot together, play cannon defence, card games, pvp, svs all these were tools to allow us to connect easily.

We could explore all the corners of dungeons or just chill out and chatter on some quiet island while enjoying the sunset, sail to the edge of the world, plan Guild events, race, spend time healing a lower level, fish the night away on a fishing boat, swim the seas, dance, test out ideas and strategies, storm Forts or simply mess around with outfits and weapons or tattoos or potions.... you get the picture. It allowed us to use our imaginations and really play together in a way you can't often experience even in real life. If you weren't in game we were able to connect here on the forums, write stories and biographies for the wiki, on facebook, make videos, write stories to share, but all the time we knew that our common bond is our love for Potco, for being a Pirate.
:swashbuckler: .

It's hard to play the game solo, without meeting someone who needs help or healing or crew or a companion or a sympathetic ear. There wasn't the ultra competitiveness to always do this quest or get this level or beat that boss which can be found in other games and I like that. Yes.. I covet a black corset and a WEB.. but I can live without them. It's still the whole potco community that I'll miss the most.

My love :rose: life on POTCO has absolutely stunk:pepe: (lol) but time and time again, I was always able to cry upon SCARY MARY's shoulder and drown my sorrow in rum and candy chocolates.
...After September 19th, what the heck am I suppose to do then???

I will miss the intellect and site of that woman:cry:!
