Reserving custom names for TLOPO

Multiple players can have the same name so there is no need to reserve a name.

But would you want someone else to have the same name as you?? Everyone knows my pirate name. Someone in game made a pirate using the name I had chosen. The blighter even pretended they were me and posted on the POTCO webpage making it look like I was bigging up their other pirate to be considered for a place on the 'blog spot'. I was not a happy bear.

Pirates names, honestly I don't think they are needed. Like as much as I loved people couldn't copy my name on Potco (they changed rules so new people couldn't be captain) I think it's more of a hassle than it's worth. Guild names, IMO should be able to be reserved.

Pirate names were not unique in POTCO, and will not be in TLOPO either. Besides the extra development and/or moderation time this would require; it's another system that could be abused by an "imposter" reserving a name and the "original" not being able to use it.
Regarding guild names, those will continue to be unique once they are available in TLOPO.

I agree, someone could take your guild name out of spite, or even claim to be the "real" guild. Its a shame that this could potentially happen. Ive seen this happen in POTCO as well.

Don't get me wrong, I wish names could be unique, but it really isn't a practical thing to do. There is a limited number of possible name combinations. Eventually they will run out. It would be very frustrating spending hours trying to pick a name that is available.

There are some games that allow some pre-made names with the click of a button. And its not like every name would be unique. What I was thinking is that someone would submit a name, then if the name was accepted by a GM then the name would be unavailable to others who tried to submit that name also.

I am someone that absolutely fell in love with some of the preset options for names. I think you just have to learn to live with the fact that, custom or not, there may be someone else out there with the same name. I always found it fun to run into people with the same or very similar names.

Sorry mate. The team has decided we would rather duplicate names, than names that appear more unrealistic due to 5 numbers trailing them. (Along with many other reasons, keeping it Disney as possible included, of course!)Maybe have the name that everyone calls you by, and a unique extension, kinda like a clan tag, that's personal to you.

And maybe an option to display either your personal tag or clan tag.

Is it still going to be possible to submit a name, then wait for it to be accepted; or will that be taken out?

That's already in the game. I don't see a reason for them to take that feature out. It's what allowed people to be unique with their pirate naming.
Also, I'm pretty sure numbers aren't allowed in names. They need to be realistic names that a person could have.

^ Seconded. This is a feature that was in POTCO and will remain in TLOPO.
