Discussion Richard's Alpha Observations (August 3rd)

Richard Seakidd

Honorable Pirate
Been a while since I've done one. Props to the devs for patching so many bugs and even getting sailing implemented. Just some observations I made this latest session to point out what I noticed. Please feel free to add your own in the comments!

- Sailing functions fairly well as fair as smoothness and the actual mechanics go.

- Game FPS has increased a lot especially when alone on islands. Loading player models still seems to cause a notable amount of stress.

- Cutlass swing timing is much more fluid.

- Ship turning radius is extremely small compared to vanilla POTCO performance with no perks. I would increase the turn radius by about 50% (at least when I tested on a brig.)

- High Dynamic Range doesn't seem to function on ocean water when at sea (though it does while on islands.) This causes the water to seem a flat shade of blue aside from the wave interference and reflections. Reflection quality was also inconsistent across different areas of ocean on the same screen.

- Ship sailing perspective felt a bit odd (as in the islands and their render distance and ocean flatness.) I actually quite like it in and of itself. Island names also scale down quite small when far away. While I dont think they should be quite as big as vanilla POTCO, I feel the islands names are too small except when close.

- The general ocean texture at sea felt large, flat, and repetitive instead of small, detailed, and balanced interference.

- Broadsides shot out drastically towards the bow or rear of the ship instead of defaulting roughly perpendicular to the bow of the ship.

- When docking at Raven's Cove, game crashed IMMEDIATELY. Upon reboot, a rock wall was rendered out of place on the Raven's Cove initial dock looking towards the tall bridge.

- The French Assassin Tricorn feels like it sits about 1/2 an inch too high on the head.

- Richard's thin mustache option still doesn't load.

- Richard's tan skin still appears to have a red/ruddy distortion on the character selection screen.

Thanks to the devs and the team for more updates. I look forward to seeing and testing more progress!

Frequent crashes for me with a high end desktop running Windows 10 and Nvidia 980 Ti. Hopefully more optimization will fix.

Update: Crashes everytime I run past the dinghy to buy a boat at Port Royal.
