Idea Schooner Ship class

Richard Seakidd

Honorable Pirate
I just had an Idea for a ship class, the schooner. The schooner would be similar to a Sloop, having just barely less speed (TLOPO Sloop has a 40 speed rating I think last I looked. Sloop would be increased to 42 while Schooner would get the 40.) and a larger turn radius and profile in favor of stats like this (on the War Schooner.)

vs War Sloop's

Except this would make the sloop class useless and obsolete, because for a mere 10000 gold you can get a direct upgrade in all stats.

Ships should be competitively balanced for different situations and playstyles, for example:

Sloops have the most speed, which makes it the best option for traveling to island to island or fighting with a more evasive craft. As a downside, it has less armor and firepower.

Galleons are the best for carrying large amounts of cargo, however they are slower than other ships and less effective for battle as some.

Except in the case of a schooner, it's just flat out better than the sloop.

Except the sloop would still have in edge in speed, turning radius, and hull profile. This is in exchange for the schooner having more armor, a mere one extra cannon on each broadside and two more cargo.

I also proposed a slight speed buff to the sloop because I feel that the Brig is oddly close to the sloop's speed, so the speed would go Sloop > Schooner > Brig > Frigate > Galleon.

But the sloop has only an advantage of 2 for speed, which is negligible compared to the other benefits of schooner over sloop

I'm pretty sure the sloop only has 2 or 4 over the brig... They moved close to the same base speed in knots in Potco. Maybe a half a knot difference at the most with perks. Since Brigs were a bit of everything, they got the speed of a sloop.

I think it's a good idea... I mean Brigs are fairly OP as they are but Frigates and Galleons are (were) still used often, so I doubt adding something like a schooner would make the sloop obsolete.

I always wondered why the Brigs were about as fast as a sloop. Basically meant that sloops mostly just had the advantage of a low profile.

That's why I pondered the idea of beefing up sloop speed about a knot, and then the schooner could slide in with the sloop's current speed as a slightly more armored, slightly higher profile than the sloop, but not quite a floating fortress like the other three. The sloop would have an edge in maneuverability and racing over all the other classes with a knot speed buff, granting it a true role of speed instead of about tying with the Brig. Plus it could welcome a new, more...aesthetic/practical boat design for pirates to use too with the schooner!

Earlier in the year I posted this comment.
A long time ago I thought about what kinds of ships could they add to the game. I came up with these ideas as possible additions:
Overview:
Here are some proposed stats for the Schooner class of ship. The stats are based off of the existing ship classes. In the traditional order of ships in Pirates Online, it falls after the Brig class. Its stats are very similar to the Sloop, but has slightly more armor and more cargo.

Historical Points:
Schooners were used because they were fast ships. They were know for blockade running. Thus they must be fast and capable of taking a beating but not dealing damage.

Light Schooner:
  • Armor: 3,000
  • Sails: 4,500
  • Cannons: 4
  • Broadsides: 6
  • Cargo: 8
  • Crew: 4
  • Cost: 1,000 Gold
  • Resale Value: 500 Gold
Schooner:
  • Armor: 5,500
  • Sails: 7,000
  • Cannons: 6
  • Broadsides: 10
  • Cargo: 12
  • Crew: 6
  • Cost: 10,000 Gold
  • Resale Value: 5,000 Gold
War Schooner:
  • Armor: 8,000
  • Sails: 10,000
  • Cannons: 8
  • Broadsides: 16
  • Cargo: 14
  • Crew: 8
  • Cost: 100,000 Gold
  • Resale Value: 50,000 Gold
Speed and Turning Radius:
The base speed would be 10, as fast as a sloop. Its turning radius will be slower than the sloop. Perhaps the same as the Frigate.

Overview:
Here are some proposed stats for the Carrack class of ship. The stats are based off of the existing ship classes. In the traditional order of ships in Pirates Online, it falls between the Galleon and Frigate classes. Its stats are very similar to the galleon except it has much more Armor (hull health) and Sails (sails health) with less cannons and broadsides than the galleon. In addition, the Carrack has the ability to carry slightly more cargo than the Galleon. Its cost lies between the Galleons and Frigates.

Historical Points:
I choose these stats because Carracks were known to be used for exploration. They were bulky ships (thus larger armor and sails) designed to explore the oceans over long distances (larger cargo capacity). During this time of exploration, piracy or war was hardly a threat, this is why it has less deck cannons and broadsides. So why do galleons carry less cargo and have more cannons? With piracy being a huge threat, the navies had to trade cargo capacity for cannons (protection). With the added weight of the cannons, the ships were limited to carry less cargo.

Light Carrack:
  • Armor: 4,000
  • Sails: 5,500
  • Cannons: 4
  • Broadsides: 8
  • Cargo: 12
  • Crew: 4
  • Cost: 600 Gold
  • Resale Value: 300 Gold
Carrack:
  • Armor: 8,000
  • Sails: 8,000
  • Cannons: 6
  • Broadsides: 16
  • Cargo: 16
  • Crew: 6
  • Cost: 4500 Gold
  • Resale Value: 2250 Gold
War Carrack:
  • Armor: 12,000
  • Sails: 11,000
  • Cannons: 8
  • Broadsides: 22
  • Cargo: 20
  • Crew: 8
  • Cost: 50,000 Gold
  • Resale Value: 25,000 Gold
Speed and Turning Radius:
The base speed would be 9, the same as the Frigate, but would have the same turning radius as a galleon.
I tried to come up with fair and balanced stats, but you really could take them any direction you want.

I don't really know the stats for this but what if you added the Junk ship (Sao Feng's Empress ship with the 3 sideways red sails) cool idea, like a quest to get one you have to be at singapore, or can only buy one on singapore, or something like that. I dont know if this idea belongs here or somewhere else but im going to put it here. and dont forget about lord beckett's HMS Endeavour, the massive ship with 3 rows of cannons, but maybe that could be a boss battle. Like the Goliath, or the Queen Ann's Revenge.

If we get a new ship, I want to see a corvette... basically just a small, multi-mast ship with a decent amount of guns, would be good in SVS
