Buccaneer
My fellow pirates, let us all be thankful that the devs have put in all of the time and effort that they have to bring this game back from the dead. Not only that, but to provide everyone access to the things that you previously had to pay for, such as bigger ships and certain weapons. And it has taken a tremendous amount of hard work to even get the game close to what the original game was. But, after all the finer points are fixed, such as adding more memory and fixing the lag/disconnect problems, I think that there are some MAJOR upgrades that the devs could add to bring the game forward.
Ships:
First and foremost, i think that there needs to be a re-balancing of the ship classes. If the war brig is supposed to be second best at everything, why does it have the same stats as what is supposed to be the best. It's as fast as a sloop, has the armor of a war frigate and the same cargo as a war galleon. Everything needs to either be lowered for the war brig or, to reward those who choose to go another path, increased for the other ship classes.
Make the war sloop faster, when upgraded with streamlined, than everything but war ships and hunter war sloops. Also, make the standard war sloop have a tighter turn radius than everything but upgraded war sloops and hunter war sloops. These simple things will turn the war sloop, supposedly the fastest and most agile ship pirates can use, into the hit and run artists they were always meant to be.
For the galleon, increase, along the entire line of ships, the armor and cargo capacity both by 50%. This may seem drastic but that would mean that a light galleon would have more standard armor than a normal sloop, a normal galleon would have more armor than a war sloop and the war galleon would have more armor than everything, as it should be. Also, add 12 total broadsides to the war galleon, giving it 18 on both sides, and reduce the amount of manned cannons by two and crew by 1. The galleon is slow and an easy target. It is supposed to have the most guns and cargo available. Time to make it that way.
The frigate it the hardest to change. First off, to become a floating gunship, the number of manned cannons should increase by 2 on each frigate, as should the number of crew. The additional cannons should be on the aft deck and have a limited degree of firing of 150. this means that if the enemy ship is along side, the rear cannons are useless, but if you're running away from a fight you can take pot shot at those in pursuit. in addition to this, the forward cannons should be given a larger firing circle, 270 degrees or so, so that more guns can be on target at a time.
Social/Environment:
NOTE: This is all way down the line after the game is completely up and running with minimal bugs and glitches. I don't expect this to happen in the near future, and more than likely it won't happen at all. It's fun to dream, though.
When the game was first released, it was a massive world. all of the different areas to explore, different islands with new enemies, it was all great. Now, though, the game seems a little small. Not that that's bad, but I think it could be better. First off make the ocean map bigger. I know that the islands themselves would be incredibly difficult to alter, but the size of the ocean might not be as difficult. Then, add private islands that actually are visible to other players. They can be almost carbon copies of current islands and could be upgraded, similar maybe to black flag. Only in this case, when you buy the island it looks a lot like Devil's Anvil but can eventually be upgraded to look like the main area of Port Royal. The only caveat with this would be that only guilds could have islands and that there are only a certain amount of islands. This could lead to a fun new addition of guild wars type of thing. say there are 12 islands on each server. that means that there are 96 islands to own. there are more guilds than that, for sure. So, in order to take an island, a letter of war goes out from one guild to another. the letter will reflect a set time and date where a fleet from each guild face off in ship to ship combat. to prevent large guilds from dominating, each fleet will be limited to 10 ships with no more than 3 of the same ship type in each fleet. this will encourage diversity among ships and also limit how much guild size plays a part in the war. If the guild that was challenged win the war, the keep their island and all of the upgrades to it. if the challenger wins, then the island becomes a stage one island with no upgrades at all.
Please let me know what you all think of the ideas!
