what if when doing SVS..you could capture the other islands? and there was a way to win SVS?

goal - get as meany points in a week as you can

sinking a ship - 1 points

taking a island - 10 points

when Spain or France is in-control of a island say...devil's anvil there themed ships will spawn in that area AKA

the ships would have Spain or France flags on them and the island wouldhave there flag icon next to the name

NOTE taking the island will ONLY effect SVS players that just do PVE will NOT be effected

Yes to the island taking... No to the "winning SvS"

I think part of the purpose of SvS was that it goes on indefinitely. Having a way to "win" SvS would kind of ruin the point of that.

I believe he is talking about something like a war. Taking islands and getting the most points in a week's time. Most points "wins" the war.

I think this would be a cool idea, especially helps something like Guild Wars...

Maybe this kind of SvS war could be done between guilds, like the two guild leaders decide when and on which island to have a battle, and then when the time comes the game will start the battle and those two guilds will be able to attack each other's characters and ships, maybe while they are in a certain proximity to the island being battled over.

After you die or your ship is sunk, you will be set out of the battle and will no longer be able to damage enemy players, to avoid players coming back and making the battle go on for an overly long time.

When all enemy ships have been defeated, then you can enter the island and PvP on foot, kind of like capture the control point--whoever captures and holds the control point for a certain amount of time will be the winner, and will have the island for the remainder of the guild war, unless there is another battle in which the enemy takes it back. Of course, players will be able to choose whether they participate in a battle or not--if they have something else to do or need to go to that island for whatever reason they can simply click a button or something to abstain from the battle and be able to go about their business without being damaged by enemy players.

Whoever has more points at the end of the guild war will win; points are based on how many islands you have and how long you hold them. For example, if you hold Devil's Anvil for 48 hours before it is taken back, you guild will earn 48 points--only one point per hour because Devil's Anvil is a small and insignificant position to take. Of course, larger and more important islands like Port Royal or Tortuga will be worth more points; for example, holding Port Royal for 10 hours could yield 50 points because of its large importance.

I don't know if you guys will like my ideas, I'm kind of just tossing them out there. Tell me what you think of them, or give me your own.

I think it is quite an interesting idea. You are kind of referencing this to my post of Guild Wars.

Points or just "kill all enemy players and ships to win" is good ideas...

It sounds a lot like the POTBS system just watered down for POTCO/TLOPO. I think that honestly the islands should be..... left alone really. Although, I feel like nations you can privateer for should be more than two in my opinion.

Well the Spanish and French being the two SvS nations is historically based on the time when Spain and France were vying for the same land/whatever it was, I can't remember. (I did look it up when POTCO was live, and it does have historical significance.)

Spain and Britain did battle each other in history. Since Britain is also a nation that is prominent in the game, it would make sense for it to be an SvS faction too.

Historically, the Dutch, the British, the Spanish, the Danish, and the French were involved in the Caribbean. The Danish were more or less minor since they only had the U.S. Virgin Islands.

I wasn't aware of the countries other than France and Spain, as I had only done a vague search regarding France and Spain.
Thanks for the enlightenment!
