Targeting Ships

should there be a accuracy skill in the sailing category for cannons

I'm suggesting making a skill under the sailing category. kinda like the take aim ability only not holding down left click. i feel like being able to click the ship you want to target so your cannons will shoot that ship instead of a random ship or missing in general. this would be a cool thing to add cause then the sailing cannons wouldn't miss as much and if you upgraded it you could increase your accuracy. please up vote this cause this is really needed cause i don't know how many times ill be out questing for ships and ill hit a war ship in the background and end up getting sunk by a level 47 in my light brig.

I take it you at are talking about broadsides and not cannons here. I think broadside aim is mostly working well and most people simply don't know how to use it. There is a bug or two: the backfire and another, possibly related, where your cannonballs drop straight down into the sea in slow motion when you are at point blank range.

your being serious right? like the broadsides miss ships that are right on the side of your ship. how is that working xD they hit like a good 80% of the time then the other 20% makes me want to delete my account they miss so bad.

Yes, I am serious. I don't get as high a percentage as 20% misfires and I doubt anyone does. As I said, there are misfires that are caused by a bug/s but this seems very fixable and is not something where we need a whole new combat system to fix it.

its so annoying. or sometimes there will be the random shot where the broadsides aim for sails and it makes me want to die :(
I've not seen that and suspect that you just didn't have proper targeting when you shot. I don't think targeting ever targets sails, that is an untargeted broadside that gives a shotgun spread of cannonballs where some or possibly most hit sails by luck.

Literally like every shot misses no matter where you aim with the cannons. Either backtrack behind the ship or for no reason go in front of the ship or hits the sails. I'd say it happens more than 20% of the time causing me to not want to sail ever. Says its fine but never sails.

Thems the perils of plunderin matey.

Not sayin sailings easy, but it isn't all that difficult either. I feel your pain. All ideas are worth considering, but this one seems too close to auto aiming to me. Have that and what fun is doing battle. I'd feel kinda like I'm playing WOW. We can't expect to cherry pick a ship in the middle of a fleet and think they're all going to sit there and watch in real battles. Tlopo strives to give us some realism in battle mechanics within their means.
The navy don't just hand us their treasure on a silver dingy, so I don't expect tlopo to make them easier targets any time soon.

But keep plunderin and coming up with ideas, that's what makes this game great.

Usually broadsides will only hit the front sail on a Skelton ship If aimming towards the front of it . May have a straggler hit the front sail on a War Frigate from time to time but seldom happens .
Yes, when you target frigates that are pointing their bow towards you the shot will hit that low slung front sail, I don't feel that there is anything wrong with that, it feels right to me.

Welcome to the forums Joey. Tlopo is a true beta with stuff going on all the time, that's why we're here to beta test it. Don't get discouraged because the next time may go amazingly well. Then you sink sitting at port. Whelp- beta!
Have you had the fun of falling thru the ship and swimming in davey jones locker yet? Or porting with full cargo only to dc? Welcome to the tlopo beta testing team.

Where you can go from getting a legendary to upside down under Cuba. Never a dull moment in the Caribbean.
Only advice I can give in this case is to hang tight and make in game reports. It will give you something to do while waiting for a boss to come back from never never land out in some map somewhere.

Oh and another piece of advice, try to kill your enemies on the same level plane as you, or you'll see a skull 30 feet up where you can't touch it. beta testing or no, that really pickles your peg leg when that happens.

Eric says it's not totally perfect but still very playable and really only needs a bug fix or two, but never sails...

I believe the broadsides should work the way Ubisoft made them in AC4/Black Flag and Rouge. The mechanics in that game are awesome where you can aim where your cannons fire. Something like that would make the game less "press a button and boom' and more interactive.
thank you this is what im saying

OK, there needs to be some clarification here.
Frigates, which Eric sails most, have a linear broadside, most of the time. While it does aim at angles somewhat, it's pretty much a shoot what's perpendicular kind of shot.
Brigs are completely different. They never shoot perpendicular to the ship, unless on accident, or when it deliberately misses the ship in question. Sloops and war sloops are closer to how Brigs fire than to Frigates.
Galleons share several aspects of both, but predominantly close to Frigates.
So, in the end, it's not about knowing how and when to shoot so much, although that is critical, but also about the variations between different ship types.
There is much work to be done with broadsides, even if some pirates have adapted and know how to use them as they vary ship to ship.
Eric, buy a War Brig and sail it for a period of time and get back to us.
