Changes (Effective Sunday, March 5th, 2017 at 12:00AM PDT)

Soliciting (1 point penalty)
The penalty for soliciting is changing from 2 points to 1 point.

Naming and Shaming (2 point penalty)
Naming and shaming is not allowed. Naming and shaming is publishing the name or alias of someone so as to single them out for individual blame and censure.

For more information on the motivation behind this rule, see the following thread: https://piratesforums.co/threads/addressing-naming-and-shaming.17319/

Changes (Effective Sunday, March 26th, 2017 at 12:00AM PDT)

All current notices will become 1-point warnings with a one week expiry.

Over the past several months, the overwhelming majority of infractions on the forums have been misplaced or duplicate threads, or off-topic posts. In an effort to discourage these behaviors, we are introducing light penalties for these infractions to help curb repeat-offenders. Because of the short expiry time for these infractions, they should not impact the majority of users. A total of 3 (active/unexpired) points is necessary to trigger a 24-hour posting cool down for the forums, during which the forums are read-only. This change will not go into effect until this upcoming Sunday, which should be plenty of notice. As always, you may review a comprehensive list of warnings, point values, and consequences here: https://piratesforums.co/help/terms

Misplaced Thread (1 point penalty; 1 week expiry)
There is now a penalty of 1 point with a 1 week expiry for misplaced threads.

Duplicate Thread (1 point penalty; 1 week expiry)
There is now a penalty of 1 point with a 1 week expiry for duplicate threads.

Off-topic Post (1 point penalty; 1 week expiry)
There is now a penalty of 1 point with a 1 week expiry for off-topic posts.

Changes (Effective Tuesday, August 1st, 2017 at 12:00AM PDT)

Hey guys, tonight we're introducing a handful of small tweaks and changes to our existing terms and rules in light of recent incidents and to help clarify some points.

Rules

Abuse of Systems
The Abuse of Site Systems rule becomes Abuse of Systems, and the clauses now cover TLOPO as well.

Soliciting

The language has been updated to reflect exceptions to the rule and clarify that we are not liable for any third-party transactions.

Personal Information
The language has been updated to better define 'doxing'.

Avatars and Signatures
The language for signatures has been updated to cover avatars as well.

Enforcement

Consequences
The language has been updated to clarify what a "cooldown" is and explain that consequences are generally applied automatically at points-based thresholds.

Appeals
The language has been updated to note that discussions pertaining to specific infractions or consequences must be conducted privately.

Rules

Naming and Shaming
Our rule against naming and shaming is being extended to cover in-game guilds in addition to individuals. While we don't want this rule to become overly broad in scope, we feel this is a reasonable change given that guilds are comprised of individuals in the community. We have seen a recent influx of posts shaming entire guilds for the behavior of some of their members. As usual, if you do have reason to believe an individual or group of individuals are breaking the rules or otherwise engaging in poor behavior, you may report it to TLOPO privately at support@tlopo.com.

Changes (Effective Friday, September 7th, 2018 at 12:00AM PDT)

Rules
Abuse of Systems
Our rule against abusing our systems is being updated to explicitly include the submission of frivolous reports. While we want members to report content if they genuinely believe it might be a violation of our TOS, we want to be clear that submitting reports for other purposes is not allowed. If you have a concern other than a TOS violation, please contact a staff member instead.

Bumping Threads
We are adding a new rule limiting the ability of members to bump their threads. We ask that members wait 24 hours from the last post before bumping threads for the first time, and wait an additional 24 hours for each consecutive bump. That means you should wait 24 hours to bump a thread the first time, 48 hours the second time, 72 hours the third time, and so on if there are no other posts in between bumps. Of course, posts that move the discussion forward meaningfully do not count as bumps. Excessive bumping is a minor infraction. Please contact a staff member if additional clarification is necessary.

Enforcement

Our enforcement outline is being updated to reflect that you may not create multiple accounts to avoid restrictions in place on your primary account. The previous language only explicitly detailed bans.
